 Last day in my life as a lowly intern. Never been happier really. Community program prelims suck badly. But as a visa needing FMG, I had too little choice. I wasn't this happy even when I matched into Ophth. last year on my first try. I am really in a celebratory mood. Thank God, it is over finally! Oooopss. Wouldn't do it again even for millions.

Is there no break (not even a short one?) between internship and start of ophtho residency?

The weekend if you are lucky!

No there is no break, if you do a fellowship you might get one week off but that is not universal. Something to consider especially if you have to move, I know people who had to move cross country and had 1-2 days between either intern-> resident or resident -> fellow

It depends on when you start internship. Mine (a TY year) started around June 20th, so that's when we ended, giving me about a week before starting ophtho orientation.

God, your intern year must really have sucked.

There is little to no break. In fact, my ophtho program starts before I finish internship, so I have to use my vacation weeks to move.

I used 1 week of vacation at the end of my transitional year and ended up having about 12 days to move. It wasn't that bad. Most of my co-residents had it worse though. One person from my intern year had to move the day after a night shift. They got off at 7:00 am from their last shift of intern year, got in a moving truck and drove 12 hours, then started orientation the next morning for their PGY-2 program.
