To the 2010 cycle: Don't despair

As I'm going through the different topics I see a lot of panicking and confusion. I just want you all to know that with a little perseverance and hard work you all will do well and have your chance in dental school. I'm speaking from experience. I was once in your position - last year actually. Sometimes it felt impossible, at times I wondered if it was worth it; and guess what? It was.
Whenever you feel like you don't want to study anymore just give yourself a little jolt and remember your ultimate goal. Motivate yourself, or find motivation.

Thank you for this post. I was supposed to take my DAT on June 19th and had to reschedule for July because I wasn't ready to take it. This upset me because I was on a leave of absence from work so that I could take an O-Chem lab this summer and study for the DAT. Well I knew that it would be more stressful because I would have to go back to this job...which I despise...and try and study and work in this very disruptive and unhealthy work environment. Anyways...Monday was my first day back from my leave and my boss informs me that she is transferring me to another unit that I hate worse than the one I'm at! Now I have even more stress than I anticipated because I know I'm going to have to quit soon and find another job or I will go crazy! If I didn't have family obligations and house payments I would just quit and be done with it. I have been trying not to let this affect me because I really need to do well on my DAT so these words of encouragement really came at a great time for me....Thank you! And the web site has some beautiful and inspirational quotes! I just need to push this crap out of my head and rock the DAT! This is the last step in completing my application. 😳

Ooh, I'm really sorry to hear all that, but I'm glad that i was able to be of some sort of help.
Yo have to get pass your current situation and really focus on what is important to you. I'm not saying quit your job, but try to cope amidst all the negative energy and confusion if u can becuase u have responsibilities like you mentioned. Going through and sticking out this situation while studying and eventually ACING the DAT will only make you a stronger individual and guess what? a stronger dental school candidate!

Wow... I'm in the same shoes!
I'm a computer programmer and even though I'm good at it I don't like it.
I want to do LWOP (leave without pay) for about two weeks so I can study for my DAT which is in two weeks but my boss won't let me do it 🙁
I got everything ready except my DAT and I just want to be done with it.. of course with a good score.. My younger brother who took the test 2 years got 21 without much studying is keep telling me not to worry but I can't.. It sucks..
Let's ace the test and quit our jobs!!!

thanks for such motivation and support! my dat is scheduled in july and I'm studying as much as I can but I feel so stressed out and worried everyday. it seems like my mood changes million times a day when I do some practice with destroyer, etc
but I believe everyone would feel the pressure by this time and hope we all do our best. Good luck everyone! 🙂

I don't feel down. But I do work 40 hours in the sun every day. Job isn't what I want it to be but it pays my bills every month and I got to live somewhere. My car is crap and I dont even have AC working. It is very tiring by the end of the day. Top it off, I took a few years off after school so everything is not fresh anymore. But I keep chugging along every day. No going to bars after work or hanging out with friends for me. Maybe in the end this will pay off and I can take a few months off if I get in this year.

PS that website is hokey but if it makes some people feel better, great. I thought it was inspirational stories. Like some kid lost 2 legs while bringing food to his grandma. Saved a baby from a burning house while in a wheelchair and then gets the pretty girl in school to go out with him. And then somewhere in there he gets into dental school at 18 and becomes a whiz kid. Okay now that's hokey.

Thanks KKae for starting this thread. I am studying for my exam and sometimes find myself where I once began...Thank you for making me believe that perhaps this day will be a bit different.
