Really? Let me inform you- day care takes babies from 2 months old, that is how long maternity leave usually lasts. Most women take that off. The ones who stay home , stay without using day care, only occasional nanny or relative help. If you plan on having 2 or 3 children then use a live in nanny, who is payed minimum wage , also cooks and cleans your house. So nothing is as depressing as described by OP

True. I have an uncle and aunt (married) who are both accountants and they make a ton of money, it also helps that they had kids a little later on. Though they've told me they don't particularly like their jobs but they pay the bills and help them finance their passions. (My uncle is a politician and my aunt runs a cake decorating business on the side.)
Eugh...I wasn't raised by a daycare and would never want my kids to be either (which is why I don't plan on having any). I have no problem with working women, but believe that parenting is the most important job one will ever have.

Agreed. I don't think men should work over staying home to take care of their kids as well. I believe parenting is more important than your career and desires.
Men don't form or have the same attachment to their child as the mother does. Also, men (most?) can't breastfeed, and a man breastfeeding a child with pre-pumped milk isn't remotely the same. The women also can experience positive health effects from being with the child post-partum. But hey, you do you. This is all to say that early on, the mother is better suited to stay with the child (1st-ish year), but after that, I agree. Women haven't been the caregivers for hundreds of years out of coincidence, there is clearly a good reason for it.
You probably do have more experience than me just like the baby boomers who collectively had $1.1 billion of their social security payments garnished last year to pay for student loans that they had cosigned.
What's the issue with driving a Toyota Corolla? It gets the job done. If your self-image is dependent on the price of your car, you're living life to satisfy others and not yourself. CPAs especially if they were smart enough to get into dental school should be able to make decent money. I doubt they'd need to buy clothes from Walmart.
Sure, if you can afford to. But, believe me, soon you will find yourself in a situation when you want to be with someone and want to procreate

There's nothing wrong with a Corolla ... if you like driving an appliance. That's fine. Just because people with means can afford nice cars doesn't mean they don't appreciate quality family time. Cars are my passion. I don't buy nice cars to project some sort of image. The cars, in my case, is the reward for working 6 days a week. The cars, and boats, allow me to spend my passion with my family.
Below is a photo of my oldest daughter and myself on a R8 cruise across the state. It was one of the most memorable trips in a long time and I spent quality time with my daughter who by the way shares my passion for cars.
The background looks fuzzy because the photographer did some weird stuff to the original photo. btw. I do not own the R8 anymore. Looking at something different now. A new experience.
Hormones are a tricky business, aren't they? I'm getting a vasectomy as soon as I can afford it and am in the process of considering chemical castration (leuprolide). I've always valued rationalism and have noticed that hormones, emotions, whatever are always screwing up my balance of life. I'm better off without it and believe that these "animal" instincts are only holding me back from my potential.
You can get that from Lexus, which is pretty much a fancied up Toyota. It's not about the price; it's about the depreciation. I'd rather pick up a $80,000 Land Cruiser over the equivalent German car knowing that one won't have lost half its value in 5 years.
Additionally, I've always valued the ability to work on your own car. While the ease of access on all new cars is decreasing, German cars in particular are a real pain as they've essentially become ipads on wheels. Few independent mechanics can work on the newer ones since it would mean spending tens-of-thousands of dollars on special dealer-level scan-tools and software. The only real option when you're out of warranty is to get raped by the dealer for routine service.
Speaking of monopolies, have you heard about the German car cartel scandal? I don't trust them. Remember VW's dieselgate scandal? They're shady companies.
And remember; your German car probably was made in Mexico, Philippines, or some other developing country. So much for that quality.

In all seriousness though, you guys have a good gig when it comes to insurance. If dental coverage ever gets treated like medical, you’re all pretty ****ed. Don’t know how you managed to avoid our misfortune, but wouldn’t bet on the walled garden lasting forever.
And that's what I'm afraid of. When will happen? No one knows.

Let's use an example:
The 2011 Mercedes GL class had an MSRP ranging between 60-84K
The 2011 Toyota Landcruiser had an MSRP of about 69K
6 years later, the average asking price of the benz on Auto Trader ranges from the high teens to the low-mid twenties. The landcruiser: The lowest asking price was 41K with prices ranging up to 50K.
Both searches were for cars with 75k miles or fewer.
So I think the market has spoken as to which car is more highly desired. I know a prominent lawyer in my area. He can be seen driving around in his 4runner. Another wealthy businessman alumni of my school regularly drives his landcruiser.
Do I want to take a $40,000+ hit for 6 years of having a three-pointed star on my grill? Or should I have the ability to sell my Toyota for at least half of its original MSRP after the same period of time?

Hmm...I never thought about that.
We have a much stronger lobbying group than med does. Dental lobbying has always been a big part of the dental community and when medical started getting screwed, the ADA just doubled down on the efforts to protect the profession.
You mean like how the ADA is running to save dental students from rising tuition costs? Give me a break.
Schools aren’t running out of applicants, are they? They are there to protect the profession. If students are still applying to dental schools in droves, lowering tuition costs isn’t their #1 priority.
If you actually enjoy the cars and are willing to sacrifice a couple of extra years from your finite life to afford them, then I have no qualms whatsoever. You're not the person I'm trying to convince. There are people out there who only care about the image that the car gives them and not the car itself or don't realize how many years of their life they're trading for the car. Those are the people I'm trying to convince.
Sacrifice? I am not sacrificing anything. I am living my life TODAY while I am still relatively able to. I am 55 years old and believe me when I tell you that as you get older .... health issues just become more and more common. By your logic ... you should live as a hermit with no heat, electric, A/C. Eat ramin all day. Walk to work. Since anything else is "sacrificing" finite years. Sell that Corolla and buy a Yaris and save a few more months of your finite life.
