Hey guys. here is the deal. I just finished up my undergrad Junior year this month. I am taking TPR and will be taking MCAT this August. My statistics are as follow: 3.95 overall and 3.90 Science GPA. I did 70 hours of volunteer work in the ER; 20 hours in the nurshing home, shadowed a General SUrgeon for 20 hours (got an LOR from the surgeon), probably will shadow a family practioner for a few hours, did 3 independent researches in one year (relating to human physiology, ecology, evironmental science). The research studies were like 2.5 months each. Also, I worked as a TA for my Biochem professor, and will continue to work for him for one more year. THe only problem is that I have not yet taken the MCAT and I did my first 2 years a community college. I maintained a near perfect GPA at the community college (got a B in orgo). WHen I transferred out to a 4yr univeristy, I got all A's except one B in Speech 100. I got A's in Biochem, Genetics, Cell Biolgoy, Physiology, Biometry, Env. Science, and a few humanities classes. Considering all this and that I have not yet taken the MCAt, should I apply to medical schools this May/June? I know that the schools will hold my application till they get my MCAt scores. So plz offer some advice. I donot want to take a year off between medical school and Undergrad school because I took it quite easy in the community college and I just want to get in to med. school ASAP. Also, for the primary application, there are no personal statemtns or LOR's, right? Thanks

How and why did you get a reference letter from someone after having known them for only 20 hours?

 👍

talk to your pre-med advisor.

1) there is definitely a personal statement for your primary application. i think it had a 5800 or 6000 character count? i don't remember.

2) LORs are needed for secondaries. if you don't have them now, ask for them since letter writers across the nation, for some reason, can and will procrastinate for several months. you will need these letters come september/october when your mcat score is in and your primary app is complete.

3) talk to a pre-med advisor to make sure you've got all your ducks in a row (except the mcat).
e.g. BU doesn't take students with pre-med pre-reqs from junior/city colleges or USC doesn't take students with <30 units from the humanities or UIC doesn't take students with <3 classes in behavioral sciences (for these you can finish them the summer between undergrad and med school)

4) submit your primary before you take the august mcat. you are correct it will be complete when your scores come in, which will be in late sept through mid-october.

5) take the august mcat. get a 28+
