Hello.
Currently I'm a junior in high school. I have gone through many websites about the pharmacy program. But i don't really understand it that much.

Right now I'm interested in University of Pacific (California) because of the 2+3 program (and they directly accept you right after high school right?).
I don't know when/how to apply. 'Cause my parents didn't go to college in this country so i'm kinda hopeless, don't know what to do.

USN in Las Vegas (that's where i am now) they have 3 years program but i have to complete the requirements from other college first right? Like, let say, complete the requirements (2 years?) in UNLV then take the PCAT test, or whatever, to get in to the 3 years program at USN?

Financial wise, which one is better? Lately i had a fight with my parents because of it. They don't want me to go out of the state 🙁 But i like UOP better because i don't have to go through all the confusing processes.

Please help me. I don't know what to do. I don't who to ask, so i post it here. Thank you~

ps- I'll keep checking this forum everyday from now on 😳

hi there, you're smart by coming here, but don't get too addicted to this place...lol i know i did since 2005...so who cares what your parents say? of course every parents want their kids to stay with them...go to uop! apply to a bunch of schools that would accept you in the pre-pharmacy programs (benefit you greatly when you apply to pharmacy schools in the future cuz you would only compete with your own class, not have to compete with other pple from other schools)...i am speaking from experience...my parents always want me to stay in town so i am stuck in town forever going to uop...if it's your dreams and that's what you have to do, go for it! btw, i graduated from uop with bs in biology...any quetions, ask me! (i wasn't in the pre-pharm program thou.)

The only think about U of P is that it's not a 0-6 program so if you go there straight from high school you will still have to apply to pharmacy school after you finish your pre-reqs. You may have a better chance if you do your pre-reqs at their school, but it's always advisable to apply to a few schools just in case.

UOP doesn't have a 0-6 program per se but it does have a 2+3 and 3+3 program which still guarantees you a spot in the professional phase as long as a minimum gpa requirement is met (just like a 0-6 program). The 2+3 is pretty awesome I have to say since I know of someone who completed it and was practicing pharmacy at a hospital at age 22(!!!!). I'm kind of jealous I have to admit.

Kenny,..parents are always good people to listen to and they want the best for you. but..at some point..u have to go with what you truly want. esp when something as legitimate as going to pursue a doctorate degree. if you argue back to go party..i'll say think about it....you have every right to take a stand. go to UOP...it's a good school and its what you really want.
