Yeah right. Transdermal. Did he pour it over himself?
"A total of four doses of Narcan had to be administered to completely revive him"
Really?

Clearly you read the article...
Transdermal can be a dangerous thing.
Pschyosomatic illness can be a dangerous thing.
i have so many questions about everything about this situation
Transdermal absorption of 1 or 2 mg is easily possible... Touching or inhaling a very small amount of powder can definitely be fatal
This is likely carfentanil. It is being imported cheaply from other areas and is being used to mix with other drugs such as heroin or fentanyl. If you come in contact with it, you have a pretty good chance of dying just by touching it or getting it on your skin. Multiple doses of naloxone may be needed to reverse its effects. It is a big problem for police officers and first responders.
This is what they used (in an aerosolized form) in Russia during the theater hostage crisis several years back. It killed the terrorists, but also killed most of the hostages.

Fentanyl Is So Deadly That It's Changing How First Responders Do Their Jobs
This has been a growing problem and a real hazard for first responders.

Especially considering the fact that this occurred in Ohio- the epicenter of a carfentanil overdose outbreak in 2016. Would suspect that this is indeed the case. Not only had transdermal but likely inhalation from wiping it off of his shirt and the powder becoming airborne.
Nurse in our ED said they gave over 10mg of narcan to a patient recently for suspected carfentanil. Revived him too. Crazy.
Why multiple doses of narcan if the patient is already in the ED? Why not just intubate and ventilate?
I think they were coding the patient and kept slamming narcan along with other ACLS drugs. Honestly I didn't ask, it was at a brewery and I was enjoying the IPAs.
How is it that the suspect had it all over him but seemed to do just fine?
Wow. I reluctantly admit I've been out of the loop about this. Finally a SDN thread where I learned something.
