Don't understand this PAT keyhole question (link to a bunch of problems)

If it's indeed E, then that's the back view. For answer D, that would be the left-end view, and I can see how you got that answer. However, I'm questioning whether that top piece is a hole or a piece sticking out. The image is not too clear. If it is a piece sticking out, then I would guess that the very top piece in answer D wouldn't go as far towards the right as the other 2 pieces sticking out.
 
In #2, E is the back view and is the correct answer because the block sticking out of the bottom right from the front view is flush with the side of the object, so in the back view it wouldn't be seen - you would only see the rounded projection (I think it's rounded..? the image is kinda blurry). D is incorrect because the rounded projection on the right edge of the object would be overlapping with the other projections if you were looking from the end view and wouldn't have as large of gaps between the projections.
