To the new and upcoming grads,

I thought I'd caution you to spending the extra $50 on the pre naplex. I did not personally use it, but know many that did and were disappointed. Seeing that it isn't even a full length test, I felt it was pointless, and my test results proved me very right. Doing FULL length exams is necessary to build your attention stamina for the real deal. A 60 q evaluation is of no help to you.

Advice: Use the available prep books to gauge your skills. Kaplan, while being a crappy book to use to study has available 2 free full length practice exams which I did about 10 days prior to the test. Mosby has 2 as well on a CD, which imo were wayy easier than the real thing and not really necessary. For general study, APhA is the best book to use and APhA's included CD was essential. Go thru all of the questions, and review your results after each section. Phenomenal.

But you want to be familiar with the exam format you say? When you take the naplex, there is a brief tutorial to acquaint you with the format, thus another reason not to do prenaplex.

And the best part is, all of these books are available FREE by using your local library to order it to your location. Or you could just go and use them at your local bookstore. We've given NABP enough money already, help put an end to the greed. Shoot, I'd much rather save the $50 for a celebratory bar tab when the whole shebang is over. The choice is yours.

best luck!👍

Is it really only 60 questions? Are the questions harder than those in Kaplan? The reason I ask is that I found the review material in Kaplan to be very general and broad vs the material in APhA. I am afraid that the questions in kaplan vs the actual test will follow in they same style.

I used exam master and chasenaplex.com. They were pretty good, very comparable to the standard of Naplex.

when i took prenaplex first time, i got range of 108-138 and believe or not, my actual naplex score was in the range (122). taking prenaplex actually prepared me well to do better on real naplex...if you can afford taking prenaplex twice, take it as much as you can but you need to plan it out well.

take first prenaplex at least 4 weeks before your actual exam date and take the second prenaplex 2 weeks before your exam date so you know how much you need to prepare or you need to reschedule your naplex date.

i highly recommand taking prenaplex and discourage using chasenaplex.com b/c they have many questions that you might not see on real naplex...i thought it was waste of money

make sure you stay with one or two books (no more than 2)...don't be greedy and try to read all the resouces you have because you are scared...it will just screw up your head!

good luck with naplex/cpje and pm me if you have any questions i am willing to help anyone 🙂

Just spent the $50 for the 50 question test. I was actually really suprised at the questions (lots of TPN calcs). I am not entirely happy with my score, so I think it was good in that it highlighted a few of the areas I definitely need to work on. Not sure if I will pay $1 per question again, but good for an overview of how my studying is going.

If I had to do it again, I would select my answer, then look up the right one (kinda blows that you don't get to see what you missed). But still keep that answer you picked so you get an accurate score prediction.

Hi,
my 2 cents are that pre naplex helps you prepare for the "style" of the examination. I took the pre naplex two weeks before the test and gave me a score of 100 (80-120) and I found out today that I passed with a 116 on the actual naplex! i think overall it is overpriced, but I guess it may be accurate? who knows how they even grade the actual naplex?!

Yes, as I said, the style of the exam can be learned during the 10 min tutorial before the real test. Using free practice exams I scored 124, so in all honesty, anyone that uses prenaplex after seeing this post is a sucker. As they say, a fool and his money are soon parted.

best luck all you test takers out there
peace

What should I ask from my local library for APHA? What is the complete name of the book?
This is my first, and hopefully the last, time to take NAPLEX, I thought the passing score is 75; I can see everybody is talking about very higher scores. What is the passing score? 75 of 150 or 75 of 100, or somthing totally different?

what free practice exams did you use?

Just went right ahead and skipped the first post eh? Pretty sure that was described in detail. Don't get in that habit, you'll fail the test for sure. Make sure you read each profile thoroughly.

While I agree that it isn't wise to waste money, this prenaplex exam isn't necessarily a horrid idea.

If you use the exam as a tool to assess how you've progressed with your studies and how you can improve, then it may just be worth it.

$50 is really quite a small amount in the grand scheme of things....how much was your school tuition?

Really, Trent? This is a pretty important exam, so it's expected that most will be quite stressed. Mocking your fellow colleagues and making statements of failure----unnecessary. Condescension isn't really becoming of any healthcare professional or individual. Patients are most comfortable with those who are open and kind. Hopefully, you are different in practice than you are on online forums.

No ONE person can determine what is BEST or what ISN'T. Trent Steele isn't the gold standard, folks. He only scored 124 (yes, a commendable score...but, not nearly high enough to be worth worshipping.)

Since I can get reimbursed for taking the pre-naplex from my employer, this thread inspired me to unwisely decide to take it the night before... for science. At this point I had done 2 days of hardcore studying, and informal studying for 2 weeks (question bank, reviewing school notes 1-2 hours a day).

Try #0: 2 weeks before rotations a year ago (need to pass to go on rotations): 98

Night before NAPLEX:
Try #1: 78 😱

So... I was like OK. I got stupider after a year of rotations. Probably a fluke. Let's take it again to be sure.

Try #2: 82 (65-102)

Reaction: Oh crap, panic mode, this is cutting it close.

After some restless sleep, it was test time. Didn't think it was as bad as I had thought. Certainly didn't feel like I failed. Which I was told was a bad sign.

Actual score: 117

Conclusion: Don't take it the night before even if it's free. The estimate doesn't appear to be that accurate, especially since a range of 30 points will cover 50% of all test-takers. The prenaplex has a 50:50 chance of putting you in the right score range even if it did nothing. In my case, they predicted wrong despite that luxury. I actually missed a couple gimmes from lack of sleep that I wouldn't have had if I hadn't taken it the night before. So go figure.

Unless you failed the prenaplex, I probably wouldn't take it twice.

I also thought the exammaster questions were more like the NAPLEX than the prenaplex.
