Dorm room by myself

I just found out that I will be in my dorm room all by myself. I feel kinda depressed now seeing as he was one of my best friends. What do you SDN'rs think about this. Is this an advantage in anyway other than the obvious? Btw, he was a good student so no worries bout the time to study part but what about companionship?

You should be fine. At least there are others around you in the same building. I live in an apartment alone for almost 6 months after my roommate moved back to florida - I almost dropped out of school and moved back home. There were a lot of other things going on though, but I don't want to get into the details. Good luck - you'll be fine.

🙂 my room mate moved to an appartment before school started (but according to the papers, which require freshmen to stay in the dorms first semester, he hadn't), so i had a dorm to myself for my first semester. next semester i'll probably be getting some random room mate.

i don't know what positive stuff there is to say about it besides the obvious. i've always been an independent and introverted person, so i may have a different take then you if you're more of an extrovert. but yeah, it's been great without a room mate, i've loved it.

as far as the negatives go,

just leave a door open and random kids will come to your room to hang out, it's not at all lonely.

i won't know for sure whether or not "room mate companionship" is anything worth wanting until i get one, but as i said, i haven't been lonely.

don't forget to slide the beds together, it's the tops.

My school you are guarenteed a single after freshman year, and since 99% of students live on campus, that means that everyone has a dorm room to themselves. It's great! You get to really feel like you have your own space, and everyone is still around you. I lived next door to my first year roommate and my hall always had all of the doors open and we acted as if we were all in one room, and then at night the doors would close. A single in a dorm gives you the best of both worlds.

umm... you never thought of it that way? u gotta get out and not study as much dude. either way.. i think we're all assuming you're a dude, dude. but yeah, if u don't like spending time alone, open up your door and make some brownies or cookies and put em by your door, that'll attract someone.
