DOs in Allopathic residency programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For anesthesia it is just the comlex.

I looked up requirements to take the anesthesia boards, and they take comlex OR usmle. Then I called my program just to double check that they didn't have any additional requirements (doing a transitional year elsewhere).

Thank goodness. I'm sick of taking both!

I personally think DO residents should have to take the USMLE if you're in an allopathic residency. Its total BS to only have to take the COMLEX which is far an away easier. DOs really T me off when they want special treatment.

So you want DO's to take all 3 steps of the COMLEX as well as the USMLE? What's that, like 8 licensing exams.

Lay off the crack man.

I ended up taking both COMLEX and USMLE steps including the clinical oral parts for both. Even though that is a lot of testing I felt that it only improved my credentials and I personally felt more confident in my clinical and basic sciences knowledge as a physician competing with MD's as well as other DO's, who may or may not have taken both licensing exams.
Just food for thought.

I'm not quite sure thats a wise financial decision. You just wasted a few grand on exams that will do nothing for you in the future nor will it make you a better neurologist.

I'm all for DO's taking USMLE Step 1 to allow PDs to compare "apples to apples" when applying for allopathic residencies. Beyond Step 1, it's truly just a licensing exam. Take it, pass it and move on.
