DO's in Jacksonville,FL????
Started by dreams
i need help in finding a DO to shadow in Jax, I have looked and called over 15 on the AOA website list for those in Jax and I have not been able to get someone to say yes or to even call me back🙁 If anyone knows anyone that would be very helpful!!!!!
still lookin🙁
I dunno, that's basically how I got to shadow my DO. I contacted the AOA, and one of their advisors or whatever sent me an excel sheet with DOs on it. Called him up and his receptionist basically said yes for him. Granted he wasn't surprised when I showed up, but I didn't feel unwelcome either.

You could also try contacting the nearest DO schools (NSU or LECOM-B) and see if they have listing of alumni that you can contact. The schools might have some programs or physicians that are prone to allowing students shadow. Other than that, just the AOA directory or mentor program. Good luck.

I will try this, I have been calling the ones on the AOA that are grads of NSU and LECOM-B but maybe the schools will have a list of more.
Haha, probably won't get very far looking for LECOM-B grads.....first class just matched.
But, you could also look up Mayo there and see if they have any DOs on staff. Since it's a teaching institute they may be more willing to have a student tag along.

I still think that people who say no on the phone will be more apt to say yes if you visit in person. Wear some business casual type clothing and go into a few offices. You might be able to ambush them when they are coming back from lunch or something. Obviously if they are really really busy then you won't get the face to face time, but it is really really easy to say no to someone on the phone.

well I was trying to find one that is EM or OB so this might be a bit harder for those types but maybe Ill branch out into Peds or IM and go to their offices, cross your fingers🙂 I cant be to picky right now anyways🙂

Umm.... was really just trying to help. Sorry you took it as more than that.
Anyway, on your mdapps it shows you're shadowing experience with a DO at a free clinic, could you do more with them or were you just looking for a doc in a certain specialty?
Would think you could find a EM doc (DO) there you could shadow. ER is definitely conducive to having student around observing, maybe more so than in OB.

I just started at the clinic a couple months ago and the DO just left as of yesterday and thats when i found out, so I am kinda bumbed, but oh well, and I had been looking for another DO bc at the clinic I spend most of my time with the MD (just more helpful) than the DO, but now I for sure need someone. I have called 5 ER DO docs and couldnt get an up to date number for the others, it is just hard to get a hold of them since many of them dont have offices so i just talk to someone in the ER who says they will give them a message, I know it shouldnt be this hard but I guess I am just running into more roadblocks than most, so i was going to expand my search to all fields. Hopefully that will help🙁

We have a few DOs from our preceptor list in Jacksonville that take our students for rotations(EM, FM, and IM/Cardio). They might be willing to take you. PM me if you want their names and numbers.
We also have some MD preceptors there (EM, Gen. Surg., FP, IM, Peds, Psyc) if you just want to get a look at some specialties, but not necessarily DOs. Let me know if you want the info.
