DOs w acgme internships

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
just wondering if anyone had tried to get their acgme intern year approved and what the process and results were? any idea how stringent they are about the whole equivalency of rotations?

The other DO in my class got his categorical year approved. All he had to do was give a presentation on osteopathic principles to our intern class. I don't think that he had to do much in the way of rotations.

PM me if you want his email address.

Amy -

My class' DO has done all of our standard intern year rotations: anesthesiology, acute pain, cardiology consult, 2 mo medicine, 2 mo ICU, 2 mo surgery, Emergency Med, Peds EM...but had to do a month of Family Medicine in place of the consult month that the MDs did.

I did this back in 2005-2006 during my intern year. I did an IM prelim year and I also had to do clinic work 1 day/week, while the other non-categoricals did not. In addition, I also had to do 1 month of ER. Aside from that, it was easy to get approval. I just went to an AOA conference one year and then all the requirements were done. In addition, I also claimed a hardship because at the time there were no DO internships in Maryland. If you are doing all 4 years at the same program, I would imagine it would be easy to get approval (If you go to an AOA conference), but it kind of depends on who is the approving person at the time of application. I don't know if the clinic work can be waived if you didn't do this during your intern year though. Good luck and PM me if you have any more questions.
