Hey I'm currently a freshman at UT in Austin. I'm enrolled in two honors programs - Plan II (Liberal Arts and other stuff) and Dean's Scholars Biochemistry major (Natural Sciences). I have to take about 17 hours every semester to graduate with both degrees and I'm having trouble deciding whether I should drop one (prob going to be planII)...

I'm doing well (first semester GPA = 3.8325), but I have a lot of reading from plan2 (2 lit. classes); however next year will be different since it will be 1 philosophy class which i hear isnt too much reading... but I'm not sure whether I should sack this degree and focus on other things like extracurriculars and enjoying more of college lol..

extracurriculars now: indian percussion group, premed club, research, and looking to do habitat for humanity next semester + i should prob find a hospital to volunteer at

Also, I won't be able to get too many upper-division classes in before taking the MCAT, which ones do you suggest?

I've taken genetics, bio, gen chem, will take orgo next year...
I will be trying to fit in physics along with 1-2 upper div bio classes or one semester of biochem/pchem

I've heard cell bio, molecular, vertebrate systems/physiology, biochem are the classes which are helpful but i can only fit like 2 in before the MCAT.

From what I've heard, you don't need any upper division classes to do well on the MCAT. Everything you'll need to know will be in the books you buy to study.
