Hi,
this is my first time writing here.😀
I have a very serious question about my future plans.
I'm currently majoring in math as a sophomore, and was planning to take bio as a second major.
However, talking to my advisor, I realized that my college started to offer 1 year masters program in biology.
Now, if I change my plan to take masters, I can finish my undergrad in 3 and half years and take the additional year doing masters.
If not, I would stay all 4 years doing double major in undergrad.

So, here is my question:😱
Will it be worthwhile to take one more semester doing masters?
Or should I normally finish my undergrad and apply for dental schools?
Thanks!!!!!!!

Mr. Dental, on first glance the Masters would add on an extra semester and somewhat throw off your application, requiring you to wait a year longer than the double major would. Considering that you still have 5 entire semesters left, the need to take on a masters seems at this point a little unnecessary. I would focus on the double major and do well on your prereqs and get plenty of recommended courses in.

If you really are interested in biology then go ahead but you don't need a bio degree to get into dental school. I would just finish up math, maybe minor in bio? and just worry about getting the pre reqs done. As far as I know, double majors are very tough and while schools consider rigor, someone who got a 4.0 as a psych major will probably look better than you with a 3.3 even with two majors, not saying you couldn't get a 4.0 but it definitely lowers your chances.

Thanks for your answers!!
They'll be a great help for my future!👍👍👍

I just want to add one more question to it.
If I finish my undergraduate with math major in 3 years,
Will it be better to continue with 1 year masters in bio, or complete double major in 4 years?
This time, there's no extra semester.
Instead, the only difference is between double major and masters.

What do you suggest?🙄

If i were you I would consider the possibility of going to D School right out of undergrad. Essentially put in your application early the summer before your 3rd year and you would have a great chance of getting in. In the event you don't get in that year then do the masters and reapply.

A double or triple major is still a far cry from a Master's.
