Ok, I have a question for you!! Has anyone heard of a double major in Nursing and Biology?? Would a double major actually benefit an applicant for med school or would could it do the complete opposite?? I am currently a Biology and Nursing major at Rockford College (a private liberal arts college in Illinois) and I am concerned that the double major might be a bad idea....at least I heard that from a friend...... Any help would be appreciated!!!

There are lots of people with double majors, so don't count on it to separate you out of the pack. I think double majoring in things that are wildly opposite, i.e. Art History and Chem, could allow the adcoms some insight into your personality.

However, I'm not sure Nursing would be the best major for pre-med. You're bound to get questions about why you are majoring in Nursing if your desire is medical school.

Just my 2 cents...good luck with your decision!

I'm a double major in Classical Humanities and Biology. Adcoms seem to think it makes me diverse 😉 So I think it's helping me.

I double majored in Biology and Political Science, and have talked about both subjects during various interviews. I think if you enjoy both majors, and consequently do well in those classes, it can be a boon to your application since it shows a variety of interests (if the majors are unrelated).

But I think doing it for the sake of impressing adcoms is a waste of time, you can better spend your time on other ECs or whatnot that you enjoy, and talk about those instead of your second major.

I think its only a bonus if you demonstrate a profound interest for both topics, otherwise its probably not that big a deal.

its not a double major...

but i have a major and a double minor

majored in biochemistry-molecular biology

double minored in scandinavian literature and korean studies.

very cool.

Was going for another major or minor in economics. But as I kept going up the chain, I felt it was INCREDIBLY boring, and just a distraction from biology. Then the ethnic studies department actively tried to recruit me, but I just kept laughing at that prospect, the English department just kept asking. Everyone wants me but the sciences, LOL.. no wait.. it should be :CRYING:

Now I'm trying to shore up a neuroscience minor. Not sure if I can complete it though.. neuro classes have strange schedules on when they're offered.
