hi ,
One question in anatomy 96 qp question no (22 ) kills me it says abt ansa cervicalis area of supply
In the choice they have throhyoid and geniohyoid which r both supplied by hypoglossal and the answer they have given is geniohyoid
does anyone know abt the KEY'S explanation, IS THAT AN ERROR IN THE KEY?

AND pharyngel pouch seems to be different in cards and kaplan , which would u suggest THE IDEAL ONE TO FOLLOW ?

Hi mekha
I remember reading that...I think the Q was Which one is NOT supplied by Ansa cervicalis?? Geniohyoid, being a Suprahyoid muscle is not supplied by ansa cervicalis..all the infrahyoids supplied by AC..
Corect me if Im wrong..
Good Luck
MS

Hi mekha

The question no. 22 does not ask about ansa cervicalis area of supply. It goes as
" Each of the following muscles receive motor innervation from the ansacervicalis EXCEPT one. Which one is the EXCEPTION?
A. OMOHYOID
B. THYROHYOID
C. GENIOHYOID
D. STERNOHYOID
E. STERNOTHYROID

The correct answer is Geniohyoid. Nerve supplied by fibres from ventral primary rami of first cervical and sometimes first and second cervical spinal nerves accompanying hypoglossal nerve AND NOT BY hypoglossal nerve per se.

I don't understand the confusion!

In between the Pharyngeal arches there are series of vertical cleft or grooves. On the surface of the embryo these are known as Pharyngeal clefts. Similar grooves are seen on the lateral wall of foregut and are known as Pharyngeal pouches. And hence Clefts and Pouches are both sides of the same coin! P. cleft are on the outside and P pouches are on the inside.

I don't know about Decks or Kaplan. but the above explanation is clear in Snell's Clinical Anatomy.

I hope all these help your prepn. Good luck.

Well ansacervicalis supplies everything except for thyrohyoid which is supplied by hypoglossal ,ie ansa supplies sternohyoid sternothyroid ,omo .ALL INFRA HYO EXCEPT FOR THYROHYOID IS ANSA

ACCORDING TO GRAYS ANATOMY THYROHYOID IS SUPPLIED BY HYPOGLOSSAL NEAR THE POSTERIOR BORDER OF HYOGLOSSUS IT PASSES OBLIGUELY ACROSS GREATER CORNU AND SUPPLIES THYROHYOID .
THYROHYOID IS SUPPLIED BY C1 THRU HYPOGLOSSAL NOT "ANSA"

kaplan says the same too , ANSWER to this 96 qp 22 question is throhyoid and geniohyoid . ,key xplanation in ada
answer is just geniohyoid , how is that possible XPLAIN WITH REASONS ,C1 THRU HYPOGLOSSAL IS NOT ANSA.SO U HAVE 2 ANSWERS FOR THIS QUESTION
NOT JUST GENIOHYOID OK!!! AND THAT IS MY CONFUSION 😕

the answer is both "geniohyoid and thyrohyoid" .
As mekha told thyrohyoid is supplied by C1 fibres throu' hypoglossal and not Ansa cervicalis.

hi mekha ,
i agree with u. it shd b both. geniohyoid and thyrohyoid (both supplied by c1 thru hypoglossal)
manik

So i think the key is wrong but if this question is asked we got to answer as geniohyoid prob.
