Hey guys,

I interviewed at Downstate in early September. I just received their decision in the mail which said my file is being put on "hold". I thought holds were for PRE-interview candidates. Does this hold mean I am waitlisted or does it mean that I didn't even make the waitlist?

Thanks

same situation, curious too...this is what I have gathered from a helpful SDNer.

Hold can go to acceptance at any point (probably not gonna happen next week, but I have confirmed one case where hold went to accept in February).

Now, I THINK that there is so waitlist yet. Hold turns into waitlist at some point in the spring.

Anyone know more? They should have explained the status better in their letter.

from what i understand...holds mean they will later reevaluate your application again (they are unsure of what to think of you...maybe they need to look at more applicants, etc)...most schools think of waitlists as "acceptable" but not yet accepted...meaning if there is space...then you will be accepted.

OK, did a search for "Downstate waitlist hold" and circled back to threads from the process last year.

It is like I said earlier. You're either accepted or put on hold this early in the process. You have already been ranked. You can be pulled from hold to acceptance at any time. They do meet in May to either move you from Hold to Reject or Waitlist. Additionally, you can be placed in alternate or high priority waitlist at that point.

Do the same search if you wanna torture yourself, but the facts are above. Actually, the thread is kind of funny.

Thanks for the info on this mysterious "Hold" status. I am in the same boat. I was thinking of calling the school to clarify, but was afraid they wouldn't appreciate that since their letter so clearly stated NOT TO EVER CALL TO CHECK ON APPLICATION STATUS!

Anyhow, it's good to know that the outlook is a little brighter than I had thought. When the letter said my file would be reevaulated in the spring, but I might hear from them before that, I just thought that meant I might get the pleasure of a rejection before the spring!
