Is there someone very familiar with it? I would be very interested in this and I think it's pretty limited to Temple/Scholl? Is someone currently doing it who can help clear up questions about it? I called Scholl, and they said that you finish first year and work with a researcher, then apply to the PhD program as well. Is Temple like that?

I'm curious about this because I have a zillion hours of research experience, industry experience, an MS in pharmaceutics, and think it would be cool to mix up working as a clinician and a researcher at the same time. I'm still pretty young so the extra years won't be that big of a deal. Yeah, I realize you can probably get some research done without doing a PhD in an issue related to podiatry. Do people get tuition paid for like the MSTP programs?

I got a 25 on the MCAT (ugh..sucks)...but in the 90th percentile on the GRE--should I try to give the GRE score to the programs?

If you know more please enlighten me 🙂

I don't think Temple has this program anymore.

Oh..I was reading something about doing it in conjunction with drexel or upenn...

At Scholl you can't do the DPM/PhD program if you don't meet the GPA requirements. Which I believe is a 3.5 cutoff. It has nothing to do with your MCAT scores. I didn't do the DPM/PhD program but have participated extensively in research while in school. If research is what you want then by all means save yourself the time and effort and just get involved with research. No need to get the PhD.

The profession views individuals, who get the DPM/PhD degree, as people who might be very interested in becoming a professors at the different podiatry schools. There are very view DPM/PhDs who exclusively do research...simply because there is no money in it and you can't support yourself.

Can I ask you about how you found research opportunities at Scholl? Was it as easy as just going up to some professors and asking them if they had spots for a new research student, or was it more of a pain to find an open spot?
