I'm in undergrad going for pre-med. I have been doing a lot of research lately and found that i that I like the field of podiatry. One question that I cant seem to find a clear answer to is whether dpm's can perform vascular surgeries in the lower extremeties, in specific to varicose and spider viens. I've seen some dpm's websites that indicate that they are performing these surgeries, yet on the overall it seems that this is something specificlly designated for vascular surgeons?

The surgery is pretty much cosmetic and has pretty low pt satisfaction; a lot of vascular surgeons generally avoid the procedures - and some won't do them any way, any how. You're right that the actual vein strippings are done by vasc surgery, but DPMs can do sclerosing injects, laser treatments, and some other treatments of foot/ankle varicocities if they're trained for it.
