Been taking the DIT Step 1 2011 course and absolutely love it. The course is so well organized and I am impressed at the thought that has gone into designing the study plan. Definitely has room for improvement but if I do end up with a good score, I will be on board again for Step 2!

Anyway, has anyone taken the live course or met Brian Jenkins? He seems like a nice guy and I would love to know more about how he came up with the idea for this course. I heard he started teaching it as a third year medical student? I guess I'm just in desperate need of a study break and wanting to know more about this guy who is talking to me for 75 hours 🙂

lol I think the most important thing for MilkanDoc to realize here is that DR JENKINS IS HAPPILY MARRIED

I heard from some students in the UT system that he used to teach it at the school where he is a physician but it was called "What you need to know" or something like that. And the students were doing so well that I think not that long ago he decided to take it online, and national.

This is just what I heard though so I don't know for sure. After spending so many hours staring at the screen you kind of start to feel like you know the guy, haha

I'm on Day 5 and love the course. After staring at the screen for many hours, I think I am developing a crush on the guy, too. You're not alone.

How about when Jane was wearing nothing but red blood cells? haha

Haha, you're awful!

Also, I absolutely did not think Jenkins was cute to start out with...funny how a guy can change your mind ~150 hours later...

Nothing like wooing the ladies with some SHIPP mnemonics...😉

Wonder who pulls in more ladies, Goljan or Jenkins? I bet Dr. Jenkins is the most well known guy in Ft. Worth, TX.

Don't get it.
I suppose you're saying the guy in the pics is Brian Jenkins, but I don't get this website.
I do have a sense of humor.

They are mostly references to things he said during the lectures...or the cost of the course.

Evidently he doesn't change his jokes much from year to year.

I like the Fragile X reference. I just thought, do you REALLY need to use that mental image for macroorchidism?

Dr. Jenkins swooned me with "Double Quarter Pounder, Lettuce Tomatoes Mayo Pickles, and Fries Please" on Day 6. Love it! Now if I can get through this, review real quick, listen to goljan real quick, then redo some UW and take this shizit on the 18th!!

This course helped me as well, i love embryo part though by dr.hampton richard he is awesome

it is just sad to read how students are bashing tutors, i mean if you have nothing good to say about other people in this case about DIT program please do not say anything negative, just because you didn't like doesn't mean no one else is going to learn from it. I am not starting war on this thread but what happened to all the professionalism that we are suppose to have, dr.jenkin is working physician and he knows what he is talking about. DIT is not like Kaplan or pass or falcon. It is quick review of HY topics that you are suppose to know and YES it is from FA, it says clearly on website. AND NO I AM GETTING PAID FROM DIT I WISH I WAS LOL

cause i paid 700 bucks and can do what i want?

Dunno what that mental image was, but one funny thing that stuck in my head about Fargile X is "Cochones (spelling?) Grandes Grandes"

Apparently cochones is "balls" in Spanish. And you have the CGG expansion

I hear its good...but isn't that course like 800 dollars? Also what is wrong with Kaplan videos? (srs, I'm unaware on DIT)

If its from first aid...why wouldn't you just save 700 and read the book? Seriously...I don't get why you'd pay to have someone read it to you. Is it just better with your learning style. No hate

They add stuff to 1st aid (there is an supplement book) and there are quizzes, high yield questions, and more mnemonics.

Its not for everyone, Wolf. I finished the course and liked it because I don't think I could have read FA and remembered as much of it as I do now. So yes, he does read it to you - but if I read it, I'd be asleep in the book 10 minutes into it or skipping stuff at random.

Different strokes for different folks. Just let it be 🙂

Good luck everyone! :luck:

This is exactly why I was considering cancelling it, but I'm glad I didn't. They link pieces of FA together that I would have never imagined, and they also provide corrections/additional information that is extremely helpful. The study guide is also great. They also really emphasize key points that WILL be on the exam that I would have likely overlooked, and say, "This most likely won't be on your exam," for certain things that I would have probably spent too much time on.

As a side note...Wonder what Jenkins scored when he took Step 1? My guess would be 220 or so...Usually people that dominate can't teach for ****.

When Jenkins says which bacteria causes Diarrhea without fever, which form of E. coli is he talking about specifically (ETEC, or EIEC, or EHEC)? He never says, but I'm sure that's testable. Thanks!

(see Micro section, p.11, #1)

I'm not exactly sure but I'd say its the ones that do NOT invade. So ETEC would, and I think thats it. EIEC invades so it could cause a systemic response, and EHEC is destroying cells so it could too I would think. I dunno, what do others say?

He's a hot piece o' azz.

Wha-?? are you watching the same guy I am? Don't get me wrong, this is not a knock at the DIT program--the lectures are good. But, I don't see what you guys are saying about his being cute AT ALL. He has the most nasal, nerdy voice and lisp and is constantly stopping to do the big gulp (the only way I can describe it is like when someone's throat hurts badly and they swallow very forcefully/slowly/deliberately, raising their chin in the process). UGH! Grosses me out EVERY TIME.

Different strokes, I guess. 🙂 I do think the James Bond/Houseless guy is super cute though. Are they actual actors or do they work for DIT?

Okay so my sister's in Italy studying abroad and I heard there was an EHEC outbreak in Europe so I decided to check my old GI notes real quick. Low and behold for the main sx to remember I wrote:
".EHEC.... causes Hemorrhagic Colitis, but NO FEVER!" interesting.........

.

What is the result of a Dexamethasone Suppression Test on a pt. with the cause being EXOGENOUS STEROID USE?

Probably unchanged? Acth is already really low.

Thanks!

Another one is #7 on page 5 of the 2nd Biochem Section. Could someone walk me through how to do this particular Hardy-Weinberg equation?

What is the frequency of the Aa genotype and the AA genotype if frequency of allele A is 0.9%

Not nearly enough love for Chris Lewis, king of the nerds.
Chris-Lewis2008.jpg

When he stuffed his mouth full of shrooms I lost it. Love the guy.

I just got an e-mail from Doctors in Training congratulating me on finishing Step 1.

Which would be great except I'm taking it Thursday. 😛

Lol, me too. (same email, same test day)

Two thoughts went through my head simultaneously:
1. Did I miss my exam???!! AAHH :scared:
2. Wooo!! I'm done and I didn't even know it! It must be next week and I just blacked out for the last week. (I am actually hoping for a Will Ferrell at the debate in Old School type blackout come Thursday. If only life were like the movies.)

Haha, I DEFINITELY thought number 1 for about 0.5 seconds. Glad I'm not the only one...
