Hi!

I was just wondering if anyone attended Dr. Romano's famous DAT boot camp? Any feedback would be great!

Thanks a lot!

all i can tell you is that being potential dental students we are lucky that such options even exist. and im not sayen that for any reason except the fact that you have the guy who actually wrote the destroyer sitting with you one on one..... i know people who have taken it and they say its better than anything else like kaplan....just like the kaplan material is okay so is the course i took kaplan and its not good at all if you could have the orgoman teach you i say go for it and you won't regret it. people have infact traveled from other parts of the country to take his course from what i've heard.....so my best advice would be to take it before room fills up. i believe the next session begins in january. plus i heard he's helpful some of my friends said they actually called him to ask him abt questions from destroyer and he answered em so im preety sure in person its even btr.

From my experience, the DAT is VERY overrated and it is no where difficult enough to pay for the Kaplan course, none the less fly across the country to take a DAT prep course. Save the money for something else and study on your own.

it all depends on how comfortable you are with the topics covered on the test and where you live.....if you live in nyc i'd say its worth taking the course.....people get amazing scores cuz of Romano so yeah it might cost some money but your practically guaranteeing yourself a good score on the DAT which isn't that easy of a test as some might say.....so IMO its worth it why dont you call him and discuss it with him.

Sorry for the late response no i haven't taken the course but i know people who have and they love it and said it was very helpful along with destroyer so go for it if you can it is def. worth it.

I took his course in 2008 and i only have great things to say about it. I got into the prob the second most difficult school to get into in the country (Stonybrook) and i did really well on my DAT's. I knew very little going in but i had a good background in chemistry and walking out i knew everything there was to know about the DAT. In my group alone (~20 students) there were at least 8 people who had both chemistries above 24, and i know of at least one girl in my group that got 30,30. The course is awesome, its up to you to determine if thats worth it.

PM me or reply if you have any questions.

I attended the camp and I recommend it very strongly. Dr Romano spent about a month reviewing GChem and OChem in order to get everyone onto a level playing field, followed by exam-specific reviews in GChem, OChem, and Bio. There were also optional supplementary courses for reading, math, etc.

Dr Romano hones in with great precision on the topics you'll find on the DAT; when I sat for my exam I saw a lot of problems that made me stop and say "huh! Glad Dr Romano hammered *that* topic!"

I also recall that in my time during the course, nearly every other session would begin with his reporting scores from his most recent students to take the exam - usually without a single science score coming in below the low 20s. That might not sound overly impressive, but keep in mind that it's not Kaplan: Kaplan runs through thousands of students and can easily cherry-pick a couple of 30s. Dr Romano runs through a couple of dozen students per season, and can usually show you a couple dozen that scores 20+ on TS.

I guess I'm gushing a bit fan-boy-ish. I guess that's because I did well on my DAT (97th percentile overall on the AA), and I feel very strongly that it was due to the prep at the camp.

With all that said, I do feel like Destroyer camp benefits stronger students more than weak ones. I feel like "lost" students were still going to be lost at the end of his review - he certainly isn't sitting there teaching the entirety of OChem, for instance - but that the students with a solid foundation were getting sharpened to wreck the DAT.
