Dr. Sattar said that unconjugated bilirubin is fat soluble and so it gets deposited into the Basal gangila of new born and causes Kernicterus. So, when adults have increase in unconjugated bilirubin does it also gets deposited into their Basal ganglia or is it only in new borns? He didn't mention it when he was talking about unconju. in adults.

I was wondering about this same thing., I did think of blood brain barrier , but if unconjugated billirubin is fat sloble then it will cross the BBB , I guess so still confused on that..

unconjugated bilirubin is bound to protein. it is the protein that crosses the bbb in infants. In adults this protein like almost all proteins requires facilitated or active transport in. pure fat soluble diffusion is for CO2, O2 etc.

yeh sure, i did not think of that, thanks ,.............
