How many of you have dress codes at your school and what do you think of them?

At first I was upset that Auburn had a 'professional attire' dress code. I was the one that always wore either scrubs or flannel pants to class. After a few hundred bucks and a whole new wardrobe.... I LOVE the dress code! It makes me feel like I am in VET SCHOOL and actually there for a reason. Plus, everyone looks so nice and it's nice to have that professionalism surrounding you.

There is a dress code in clinics for 4th years here at UTK. Originally they had said we needed to be dressed up to go down and look around the clinics but even that's been relaxed. We all pretty much wear jeans everyday.

Here in Minnesota we only a dress code for clinics the end of 3rd and 4th year (professional attire), or now if we have clerk duty (maroon scrub top and khaki pants). If we want to hang out in the animal hospitals we just have to wear our name tags (which I just got about 10 minutes ago -- I'm sooo excited!!! 🙂

Although I can definitely see how it would be nice to see everyone dressed professionally, I am entirely too attached to jeans, T-shirts and sweatshirts. Plus it's FREEZING in our classroom so far, so I think I'd die if I couldn't be all bundled up in the warmest sweatshirt I can find! 🙂

Sofficat, I'm with you on the dress code. It's a huge pain in the rear at times, but I'm starting to realize the huge impression Auburn and Mississippi State both make on visitors because they all know us for our professionalism.

Plus it will make the transition easier for me, at least, to clinics where professional dress is mandatory at most schools, because I'll be used to wearing it when the time comes.

We've actually heard a lot recently about one of your Dr. Hendrix, who is coming to speak here next week, and how he is a huge proponent of the professional dress code for veterinary students.

As far as we've been told, Mississippi State and Auburn are the only two schools with an enforced dress code for vet students of all four years.

(PS - are you going to the football game this weekend? go 'dawgs =)

dr hendrix is one crazy cat! but you'll love him. he definitely is for the dress code. i think it makes a really great impression, too. some state official came to AU to check out one of our research centers and he commented quite a bit to the dean about how we all look so nice, do we really dress like this everyday?, professionalism, etc.
no i'm not going to the game. i went last week when we played usf (my alumni school!) and AU lost in overtime! 😱
war eagle!!!

They talked about our dress code, and then one week in we were all in jeans and flip flops. You do have to wear a white coat, and closed toed shoes to go on rounds into the hospitals, etc. Otherwise we're pretty relaxed, beyond the "no cleavage" and "no belly button" rule.
