Drexel IHS program

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, I got an acceptance in the IHS program too. Are you definitely going? I want to go to Med School and I'm trying to make sure that this is the right program for me.

I've been looking through the Post-Bacc section and I have seen Drexel getting a few bad reviews from students. At first I thought it was just the IHS program but the IMS program seems to have some trouble too. Right now I'm having second thoughts.

When do you have to respond by?

Hey I am also accepted to the IHS program! Does anyone know any more about the program like how many students are in it and how many apply to medical school and their stats after the program?

I'm not sure. Have you thought anymore about the program? I am waiting for my other schools to respond first before making a decision. When did they tell you you had to put a deposit down by?

I got accepted to this two years ago but rejected it after doing some research. Not entirely sure what this program actually does... but it appears to NOT be a legitimate SMP/postbacc. Again, what it is?

I talked to one of the people in the office today and she was actually very helpful and made me feel better about the IHS program overall. You truly get out of it what you put into it and if you do well in the program you can join the MMS program which lets you take medical school classes and that is the year you will apply to medical school. She said getting A's is completely do able if you work hard.

Hello, I've been accepted to Drexel IHS prorgam as well. Now I am still waiting from few other schools.
I have done my research and this program does NOT have very good reputation. But also it seems like many people who gave negative reviews about this program are pre-med. I think this program makes it clear that it's mission is to expose those people to other healthcare careers.

Now I am pre-dental. and I have also heard that only few people has gotten into dental school from this program. But does this program realli hurt my chances? also since this program is not a masters program, i assume the grades from IHS is counted toward undergrad gpa? anyone know?

Anyone out there get accepted to Drexel's IHS program and thinking about going? I got bumped and really considering the program. I spoke to the director today and she said they are starting a built in MCAT prep course (starts spring 2014)... That's really what's keeping me interested.

I would really like to hear from students who have completed the program, so please comment on your experience. I feel like a lot of the negative comments are from students who haven't completed the program.

JluckDDS,
the classes do count towards a master's. From what the director stated, there is the optional second year in the MIHS for a master's. I'm not sure what the requirements are for dental school, but the program is pretty much giving you the opportunity to take graduate level courses, so I'm not sure how that would hurt you... unless you do poorly and further damage your GPA. I got accepted, but keeping my options open. I have to let them know by June 20th.

I really need to boost my gpa and while I can do that at a university (a la carte), I like the structure of IHS and like that I could potentially be getting a master's after the first year.
