Hey everyone,

I have recently gotten accepted into the MSP program at Drexel and the certificate program at PCOM. In addition I have gotten into the certificate program at UMDNJ, and I am still waiting for a response from UPENN. I was wondering if anyone could share their opinion on the better post-bac program choice between PCOM and Drexel, and why they have/would pick one over the other. I attended a university in Philadelphia for the past four years and I am very familiar with the area. I love the city and wanted to do my post-bac here as well as in the future attend medical school here. Both programs are appealing, but I have to send a check to hold my seat and the deadline is approaching and I am still up in the air. Some early posts have made the MSP program out to be terrible, but a lot of the negative feedback focused on the MCAT prep from past students. To my knowledge the MCAT prep is taught by Princeton Review as of now, and these posts may have been outdated. I understand Drexel has been changing the MSP and these negative posts are from 2-3 years ago. Also, I am not opposed to attending a DO medical school in the future, but I was wondering if the post-bac program I attend (a DO vs. MD school) would really have a significant impact on my acceptance into an osteopathic or allopathic school later on. Thanks for all your help!

I don't know anything about PCOM, but I think that it depends on what you get on your MCAT.

If you get below a 26, especially if you have high science scores in BS and PS, you might not benefit from the MSP program. You'll benefit from the IMS one.

Your GPA is not bad for a DO school. If you get a 28 or above, I think you can get into DO schools even w/o doing a post-bacc, assuming you have great LORS, EC's, etc.

Check and see where your grades went down. If you have A's and B's in your sciences, you might be bored in the MSP program bc it's going to be physics, gen chem, etc, all over again.

Considering that your GPA isn't terrible, I'd probably lean toward PCOM. Drexel MSP is basically just for MCAT improvement (which you don't even know that you'll need) and serves as a back-door way into the IMS year, which is the carrot Drexel uses to get people into all of the other money-making programs. I don't know that you'd necessarily be at a disadvantage applying to allopathic schools after a DO program, especially because PCOM has a good reputation in Philly.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate the advice. I was already leaning toward PCOM, and will most likely go there unless I hear from Upenn relatively soon.
