Drexel- please help!

hi guys!

I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributes to the great answers on the website. I have learned so much from just reading. this is my first post...

Here's my dilema:

I am a senior at university of cincinnati right now. I am majoring in biology and biopsychology with a minor in chemistry as well.

I was really dumb and messed up big time in my undergrad. my psychology gpa is very high but my bio and especially premed i should say is very low. my cumilitive is a 2.2 right now but i am still taking classes adn i will be able to get it up to about a 2.5-2.6 by the time i have to apply to smp programs. I have not taken the MCAT at all yet or the GRE. However I looked into Drexel's programs and I really like the idea of their MSP program. Do you think with a good GRE score I will be ok to get in? I have two publications under my belt, TONS OF RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (obviously due to the pubs), have worked at proctor and gamble, am working at KAO Brands (former jergens), have volunteered, etc etc.

I think Drexel's program could really benefit me and give me the chance to prove myself and my abilities. I am willing to finally put my nose to the ground and work my butt off if given the chacne to get into an SMP. Please help. How can I get into this program by autum of 09??

you might need to take an extra year of undergrad to retake science classes that you received C- or less or take more science classes to bring your gpa as close to 3.0 as possible. the 3.0 gpa mark is critical for a good amount of smps.

You need a 3.0. Stay in undergrad until you get to that point.

are there any classes you suggest I take in the mean time? the problem is my parents want me to graduate asap...

but i was wodnering, if i go to the harvard program and just take some classes would that be the same as me staying in undergrad? or should i just stay no matter what and get that overall 3.0? im so confused....is the harvard program a good shot for people who need some extra classes? is it just as respected as harvard?

I know that Drexel MSP/IMS has a GPA cut-off...I think maybe 2.7 or 2.75??

If you take more undergrad courses after graduating, repeat anything that you got a C or below in... an SMP could then help you then.

You have yourself in quite a bind here. If your parents insist on you graduating then you are going to have to continue to do some more undergraduate work in the sciences before you apply to the MSP program.

Secondly I got accepted to Drexel MSP with a GRE score. You need to score around 1200 to get accepted but I got accepted with a score lower then that because I was one of the first people to apply...literally. Also I had around 3.45 undergrad GPA...research...1st author pub..etc etc etc

The MSP might be your last shot...its decent. Not fantastic but it will give u another shot to have a shot at med school. You will get the chance to take advanced undergrad courses plus take a few grad courses as well. This should prepare you to take the MCAT that following spring/summer after you complete the MSP one year program. Then I would suggest coming back to do the IMS year which would give you a Masters in Science degree. The IMS year would allow you to take about 70% of the 1st year medical school courses that the Drexel 1st years are taking right now. The IMS program is more organized and personally I really like it more compared to the MSP program...even though the IMS year is hundred times harder. If you do decent in MSP...get at least a 24 on the MCAT you would have a good shot at DO schools. If you come back and get your Masters at Drexel and you got over a 30 on the MCAT (even though your past undergrad record before the MSP/IMS program was crap) I think you could get in somewhere allopathic.

You def would need to get over a 30...not just a 30. AND you would also have to rock the house in both MSP and IMS to go allopathic. Allopathic schools are a lot more critical and they look at everything where DO schools will give more interest into what you did during your MSP/IMS years at Drexel.
