Hi Guys:

Just got accepted into the Drexel PMED program class of 2010-11 👍. Just wanted to know who else will be accepting their offers. I just sent in my deposit. I am 26 finance major graduated from PITT in 2005 working in the Insurance industry..philly resident..I will update this thread as the program progresses and give you guys updates on classes, professors, schedule, linkage updates and much more...

So NO ONE has applied to this program!!??? and has heard from them

I will keep updating this thread for future Drexel PMED applicants. Here are some updates.

I was accepted into the PMED program. The program is designed for people who work full time. So, the classes are in the evening from 6-9, three days a week.

There are 3 professors, Chem, Physics and Bio. The Chem and Physics Profs are very nice. I cant say anything on the Bio prof. since I will not take by Bio's until summer of 2011. The class is very small about, 15 student. Some want to go to dental school, some to Vet school and the rest to Med school. This week was the first week, so cannot really speak bout the work load. Started with Chem 1 and Physics 1 and going over the first couple of chapters for the foundation knowlege.

Let me know if anyone has specific questions (PM me). I will update as we move along.

hey stee1erfan

I am aplying to this

you only have class 3 times a week?

do you get MCAT prep?

thanks

Yes. its 3x week. this semester its Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We have chem and physics lab on alternating weeks. After we complete the program there is a optional free MCAT prep.

Just wanted to give a quick update...we are mid way thru the semester...Chem 1 and Phy 1 classes are going well...have A's in the first exams as well in the labs. looking fwd to finishing the semester in good standing. Prof's are great in explaining concepts. I do not get to see them during day time due to my full time work but, you can always make an appt over the weekends. Next step, is to look into some volunteer/clinical experience.

Hey, first I wanted to thank you for updating the status of the Drexel program as you go forward. I am currently looking into post-bac programs for next year and being a Philly resident Drexel seems pretty appealing. I also like what I hear so far about the structure of the program and your posts are helpful. Thanks again and I'll keep checking in as the year progresses. Good luck.

Just completed a second round of testing for Chem 1. I think I have an A. I believe I got 2 incorrect (just stupid mistakes)..I am hoping to get the bonus question right which is 2 pts..that will give me a 100%. Our second Physics 1 test is next week Tuesday. I neeeeed so start studying for that. I think I will take a day of from work on Monday and just study over the weekend. I hate physics. I dont know why. Maybe because the prof and his lectures are mind numbing. I dread the days when we have a 6-9 physics. I shutdown after an hour into the lecture😴.

Some musings about my situation. As I mentioned earlier, I work full time..so the work + studying for classes and doing lab writeups definetly takes a toll on me. I think, its for the best because if I want to be in med school ..this is exactly the type of stress one would be dealing.

I am married and this also affects the time w/ my wife. We dont spend as much time together as we used to. But, she is in school as well and finishing her Phd courses..so both of us are busy doing our own things.

I have applied to a volunteering program at Abington Memorial Hospital. I have not heard back from them which is driving me crazy. Its closer to where I live so over the weekend I can volunteer (This is going to be crazy...volunteer+full time work+classes/labs)😱. I have started to get grey hair (Stress??). On the other hand, I am debating if I should just shadow a bunch of docs? any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,
I am a prospective student for the Drexel PMED program.
Stee1erfan, with regards to the choice between volunteering or shadowing, I think it depends on which Medical School you want to get into. Check what they recommend. I was looking at University of Washington, and they recommend to first shadow doctors (or whatever you're interested in) to get a really good feel for their day to day activities and to see if you still like it. Hope that helps.
I had a few questions about the PMED program-
1) Are all of your classes with the same group of people? How many people in each class usually?
2) I'm really interested in taking other classes at Drexel- do many students do that/ is it easy?
3) Do you know if you're able to participate in all of Drexel's activities and student organizations?

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

1) Yes, the classes you take will be with the same group of people who entered the class. However, some people might test out of for example physics since they took that class in their undergrad and did well in it. But, overall you move thru classes as a cohort. I believe Drexel takes in every 1 out of 3 applicants for their PMED program. I think max is 25. Currently I have 15 in my group including myself.

2) You could, if you dont work full time. PMED classes are in the evenings 6-9.

3) Absolutely

Hey stee1erfan, I'm actually going to be joining the PMED program this Spring...(I know, I was supposed to join in the fall, long story). Anyway, I have a few important questions about the program and I'd really like to hear the perspective of someone who is already enrolled and doing it. It's been super hard to get an admissions representative for the program on the phone. So could I PM you sometime with my questions? Let me know, thanks.

Hey Steeler,

I just applied (actually still applying-waiting for my recs to get sent). I am nervous about not getting accepted. Do you mind sharing your creds?

Thanks.

Hi Rose..Drexel accepts 1 out 3 applicants for the program. I had a > 3.0 undergrad gpa business major. and a >3.5 MBA gpa

First semester finals are coming up next week..the semester flew by really fast..i hope the rest of them do the same.

First semester finals are Done!!! I think I did well in Chem final. I am not sure about Physics. Physics final was verrryyy tough.

I am currently applying to begin th 2011-2012 PMED program. Was just wondering how in depth your short essay answers were to the
Honors, Awards, Extracurricular, Volunteering Activities, and Healthcare experiences questions. It says to write a short essay, did you write a 1/2 page, page, etc. for each and was it more of a timeline of what you did or did you add what the experience did for your personal growth/why you are deciding to enter medicine as well. Overall just wondering what the expectations are for these.

Thanks

Does anyone know since the deadline to apply is July 8 if my mcat is scheduled July 6, can I submit everything else until my mcat scores are released in August? Thank you in advance!

Is anyone enrolled in the 2011-2012 PMED program at Drexel University?
