As far as I know all you can really do is keep your grades up and hope you get moved up the waiting list.

Write to them. Send them a thank you card (personally made up, handwritten, even handmade, if you can make it look good) for reading your application and taking the time to consider you. Send them food. Everyone loves food. Make an effort to go there and tour, and mention to your guide that you've been wait listed.

A lot of college admissions centers have a bucket of people called "clamourers"--people who, even though they were waitlisted, have still shown extreme interest in going to the college. When they go to pull someone up from the wait list, they go to the people in that bucket first.

Go ahead and write to show interest... I'd stop short of sending anything that looks like you're trying to buy your way off the list, though.

When I was on med school waitlists I sent letters of interest telling the school what I liked about their program and whey I thought it was a good fit.

If you ABSOLUTELY know that you'll go to the school if accepted, you can write a letter of intent. This says you will go to that school if accepted and will withdraw all other applications if accepted. You really should only write this to a single school

I can't promise that writing letters will help, but it's doing something... and it's better than nothing.

EDIT: if you do manage an on campus visit... try to arrange a meeting with the dean of admissions. Tour guides are generally students who have no say in your admissions prospects. If you meet with an admissions committee member (preferably a dean) you can at least get some meaningful face time and show your interest in person.

edit#2: deans tend to be extraordinarily busy... call well (weeks) in advance if you're going to try this and don't take it personally if they just can't meet with you.
