Good idea or bad idea? I'm a little wired (weird because I haven't had an coffee... maybe I'm nervous?), and I want to sleep. I have some wine, and I want to drink a little to help me sleep. But then I just learned about alcohol and it's effect on GABA receptors and memory blockage or whatever... But I'm not going to drink a lot...lol. Advise me please.

One glass of wine, lots and lots of water.

EDIT: OH wait, no don't drink wine to fall asleep. Alcohol right before bed = worst sleep ever.

Actually you're so right. When ever I drink (when I do it's usually good amount) I sleep horribly.

When I can't sleep I bust out a Unisom tablet and take half. I'll give it a go 30 min afterward and I usually can fall asleep then.

You'll probably need more than a little to reach your desired effect

My recommendation would be a few glasses of fine whisk(e)y

Clearly you are going to be a terrible doctor if you drink wine before a test.

/sarcasm

No, but if a little alcohol makes you sleep better, then go for it. If I wasn't pulling an all-nighter before a test I'd consider having a beer before I went to bed.

Very dependent on you as a person though.

I found a drink while i study helps me out.

Yeah a Benadryl and a hot shower is the best thing ever.

I tend to avoid diphenhydramine if I've only got a few hours to sleep, but if you're just having trouble falling asleep and have enough time it's very helpful.

Antihistamines also affect memory, and the half-life is much longer than etoh. I often have a half glass of wine the night before a test to relax and fall asleep... However, our tests are never before 1pm.

I was having trouble sleeping before step 1, so I took a pull of bourbon and it helped me drift off.

I don't really have pre-test anxiety, but sometimes I just have trouble slowing my mind down. Also I just like whiskey.

Anyway, it went pretty well.
