Drive

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My psych rotation was an hour away. No apartment, I just got to drive for two hours every day. Family Medicine was a three hour drive but, of course, they had an apartment waiting so I only did that once. Everything else was within a 20 minute drive.

The only time I had to drive 45 minutes was to an outpatient private practice for pediatrics and I only did it for 2 weeks.

All my other rotations have been in roughly the same place about 5-10 minutes from where I live.

Urggh, I hate driving and I have a feeling I will be driving alot. Please shoot me.

I actually don't mind having the occasional longer drive. One of the few times I have purely down time to myself and it's nice to just zone out to some music or listen to a podcast or something. With the exception of away electives, my longest was ~50min to an outpt clinic.

about 30 minutes, more if I hit traffic. I requested that site though, and it was entirely worth it.

My fault though with the above post because I wanted to be at academic centers and others were already taken (lottery system).

Some students in my class (hopefully not me) will have to drive from Center City Philadelphia to Wilmington, DE every single day because there's no housing or public transportation. Without traffic, 45 minutes. With traffic, mission impossible 😎. During rush hour, it could take 2 hours or more.

Yep. I am doing gensurg at Christiana. Sure there won't be much traffic that early in the morning, but its really early. Oh well, one month and done. Phew.

my school has a policy limiting the daily commute to 30 miles. Personally, I walk to the hospital where most of my rotations are--it's a county hospital though, so kinda a sketch neighborhood.

You are exaggerating slightly. There totally is public transportation... it is just that the first train arrives down there waaaay too late to be of use. 😛
