I'm taking Calc 2 right now, and so far I'm not doing too good. I got a low C on the first exam and probably a D on the second one. Should I drop the class?
I would have to work really hard for the rest of the semester to get a B+.
But I'll have to get just a 75% and a 80% on the next two exams to have a B as a final grade.

I took it just because I like math and did super well in calc1. I'm a freshman, and last semester I had all As except for 2 A-s. So, if I'll make a B in calc that will be my only one so far. I'm just really terrified at the thought of dropping a class.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!!

Drop it.

if your confident you can avoid a C, just tough it out IMO. The W is worse than a B if you ask me.

however, from the sounds of it, it seems your struggling a lot in it.

Math major here. I got a C in Calc 2 my first semester, and went on to get almost all As in my subsequent math courses. I would not recommend the course if you have no further plans in math, unless we're talking minor or major here. I don't support dropping the course (especially since its salvageable and totally not screwed for a D), but of course it is your decision.

Pro tip: if you can get through calc 2, you will breeze through calc 3, 4, etc, with hard work and dedication. Math is, and always was, difficult if you don't practice, especially in calc 2 with all the series tests. Go to tutoring. Read your book and do problems instead of watching that TV show. Do it right, and you'll be so proud of yourself when it's over. Good luck.

Try to see if you can get a B, and if the last week of school your chances don't look good just take a W. W's don't look bad on your transcript or affect your GPA. But then this way you won't put yourself behind early in the game by dropping it initially - maybe you can pull through!

agreed, W's do not seem flattering. They come with heavy consequences, much moreso than just getting a B.

Hi there! I'm a freshman in Calc II as well.

If you'd like help, PM me. ^^

But unless you'd be eating a C or lower, don't drop it.

Dude, take your 'B', finish the quarter and don't look back. You're a freshman. Even if you get a dreaded 'C', these things happen. Math was my personal weakness too, and I didn't do too hot in Calc II, but it never came up because it's not a terribly relevant class, and I made sure I did well in all my other science courses. Contrary to what many will say, a lone C isn't going to destroy an app. You'll have several more quarters/semesters of grades on your transcript before you apply.
