I just heard from DMU this morning. I am from CA. Beside DMU, there's no school out East that I'm willing to go.

Still, I have not seen KCUMB in Missouri. For those who have interview there already, How does it compare to DMU (Des Moines U)?

My interview is Monday, so if I want to drop, I should do it by today.

dont u already have travel arrangements? id say go to the interview, u never really know where u fit in best without visiting.. skipping a possible great opportunity altogether doesnt sound wise to me, unless u know far and away youre going to DMU and thats that

Of course I have a personal bias towards KCUMB, so I say keep the interview and check out the school. 🙂

I had several interviews at various schools last year. However, once I got into AZCOM, I dropped all but DMU. DMU knocked me out of my socks when I interviewed there. I don't know how KCUMB is but I'm very glad that I chose DMU. This school is so awesome. I'm from CA too and i'm enjoying myself out here. Of course its not CA but DSM has most of what you need to survive, minus the nice beaches and weather. Good luck with your decision and PM if you have any Q's.

I was really impressed KCUMB curriculum. I'd say definitely go to the interview

i agree with everyone., u gotta at least check it out if you have the money. Its 4 yrs of ur life, so check it out to be safe.

What do you have to loose by going? I had never been to Missouri, but the school was very impressive-it became a top choice for me and has stayed there. Just goes to show you that you never know.

I would say always go and check things out, I am from Iowa, and thought there was no way some school in FL would be right for a midwest boy, but when I experienced NSU, I knew this was the place for me.

thank you everyone, I've thought about it and decided to cancel it after all to save money 👍

hopefully, this will open another interview spot for another student who truly wishes to be there 😉

I'm sure KCUMB is nice, but so is DMU. And if you really liked it and felt at home there, then you made the right choice. Sometimes there can be more than one fit and you just have to decide what's better for you.

Seriously, I wish DMU were at least 2 hours closer. It would put them at a tie with CCOM for me. I was very impressed with DMU's facilities. It makes me laugh when some people say MDs have better training when you look at DMU's facilities 😀

I have a personal bias against KCUMB. I've tried to reach several people who are involved in their Biomedical Science program and I have never received a response to any of my phone calls or email messages. Apparently Casey Pletz is the director, but everytime I try to call her or email her, she just doesn't respond. Needless to say I am no longer considering this school and I let others know the lack of interest KCUMB shows to their potential students. That may be harsh, but I believe that if your school that takes pride in delivering a rigorous cirriculum (or so they claim), then at the very least, their admission's department, for all their programs, should be at least responsive to applicants.

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I don't know what's going on here. To my knowledge and experience, KCUMB is generally very responsive to it's applicants. However, I've never tried to engage the COB program, so I can't comment on that in particular, or who the POC happens to be. Maybe there is a routing problem, or you are contacting the wrong POC (the online directory lists Casey Pletz as the regional alumni director in the dept of alumni relations)?

I know that Dr. Rushing is the dean of the COB, so you can try contacting him, or if you can't get anyone in the admissions dept to provide you the follow-up that you want, I suppose you can try the Student Affairs office (x2339). Both LeAnn Carlton and Sarah Selkirk are very responsive and can probably provide you with answers or direct you to the right place.

I interviewed at both and chose KCUMB over DMU. I liked them both very much, but felt the professors and students at KCUMB made it a better fit for me. I think you should go to both your interviews and make a decision on which is better for you personally and not which is better for anyone else. I had several interviews around the country (I understand the expense involved, however this is a big decision!) You can tell which school is the right one for you. It is then just a matter of them choosing you! Best of Luck!:luck:

That is strange. Last cycle when I applied, I found them to be one of the quickest to respond, as well as one of the most thoughtful with their responses.

But anyway, don't be so sensitive. Sometimes, these schools just get busy, and their office staff has a lot to do besides call back every potential applicant. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't apply there, just because you got your feelings hurt. They have a pretty good program.

I just realized that this thread is from last year.
