So, I'm 99% sure I'm going to drop a class, and I've already submitted my application. It's been verified for AMCAS, but not AACOMAS. Should I alert schools of the change, or just kind of wait it out and see where I'm accepted and then deal with it? It's a zoology class, so it counts as biology. There are a few schools I'm applying to that need 12 bio credits, and without the zoology class I'd only have 11. I have no idea what I was thinking when I signed up for it (actually, I do. "Oh yay, the animals! I love playing with animals, so of course I'll love learning about them!"🙄). I graduate next semester, and I would be able to take a different biology class, probably anatomy or physiology. Thanks for input everyone 😍.

You might wanna let them know, if you decide to drop it. At my school 2 years ago a girl was accepted to medical school and after she was accepted dropped her biochemistry class... upon learning that she dropped it the school rescinded her acceptance.

The situations may be apples to oranges, but how bad is this class? You might wanna just stick it out if you're dropping it because it's not interesting rather than performing poorly in it. Just think about it, and I'm sure other people have some more info they can share on this type of situation.

I think that's a slightly different situation, but thanks for the input. I haven't been accepted anywhere, but if I was I'd definitely let them know my intentions. And I guess retake the class if my acceptance was depending on it like that girl's was!

It's seriously a horrible class. It's not interesting, and as a result, I'm doing horribly in it. If I keep it, it'll take everything in me just to pass 🙁.

I believe as long as its not a pre-req or recommended class then you should be fine.

You should definitely update based on your current status if you do drop. Whether you should drop is another story... if it is something that you will need to make the hours required, you should stick it out. If you think they won't notice, you're wrong. I'm in the same situation of having to drop a class this semester but it's because I'm in Iraq and taking a class online and for whatever reason right smack in the middle of the semester the military (or my company) changed the filters on our internet and i'm no longer able to access my blackboard site... something about unauthorized computer application since we're really only supposed to use the internet for work (thanks for helping me better myself Uncle Sam). I worry about it but I think I'll be hard pressed to find an ADCOM that won't understand why I dropped since I don't have access to the site to take the class right in the middle of the semester...

Thanks, I hope you're right.

I was planning on taking another class in the spring to make the hours, although it's only a handful of schools that want 12 hours. I'd be taking anatomy or physiology and I figure that's a good class to take anyways. I would've taken that this semester, but it didn't fit into my schedule. Had I known it would've been like this, I would've switched it around so I didn't take zoology! I really think I should drop it, as a W looks better than a D. So how am I supposed to update AMCAS or AACOMAS on my schedule change? I guess I should also let them know I'll be taking another class that qualifies as biology, so that the schools that care won't immediately write me off.

That really sucks about your class, by the way. Good luck with that.

Definitely. I'd still update the schools just in case. Most of the time they'll tell you to just send an updated transcript at the end of the semester.

I dropped histology this semester I have all my fulfillments required for medical schools and my major for graduation in Jan. I called lecom they said it didn't matter as long as my requirements were fulfilled. I am going to update it in aacom though.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
So it turns out that one of my psychology courses counts for biology, so I sent AACOMAS and AMCAS the link showing that my school listed it as such, and AACOMAS has already let me go and make the change in my course designation. So since I am now over the 12 bio credits that some schools required, I dropped that zoo class and everything will be perfectly fine.
