Solely dependent on the school. I did the exact same thing this semester after checking with the dean and it was absolutely no problem as long as it wasn't a pre-req and didn't affect my graduation date.

Very school dependent... I got to drop science prereqs after acceptance so anything is possible as long as you ask.
