alright, so I'm trying to sound as least neurotic as possible, but we'll see how well I accomplish that...

anyway, I'm enrolled in a biology lab this upcoming quarter (I go to school on quarter system) and it will be my first bio lab. Since bio labs are a pre-req for all schools, I cited this lab on pretty much all my apps where they asked for how I'm going to fulfill their course requirements. However, I've gotten more interviews than expected and will be missing a lot of labs when I go to interviews this quarter (enough that it will prob hinder me from passing the class). My question is, if I dropped this lab now and took it in a subsequent quarter (or took a diff bio lab in a subsequent quarter), would that be OK? would I have to email my schools and let them know of this change? I know that "future courses" aren't set in stone and aren't all that important, but I thought that maybe this would be a bit different since it's actually required for all my schools. thanks

It's fine, but as you say, you will have to do it next quarter. It needs to get done by the time you matriculate - that's really all the schools care about. They've got better things to do than to analyze the flux of courses you're taking during the process. Just make sure it's done by the end.

If you feel that way about potentially failing the required class, then you should definitely put it off till after your interviews. Not only will it hinder the class, you will have failing at the back of your mind the entire time you are on your interview routes. That can put additional stress to your body and mind than needed. Therefore, I would go with putting off the class till a later date. gl 🙂

i agree with this. passing this course is more important and even if it weren't i doubt the adcoms would care.

cool, glad to hear it won't make a big diff. do you still think i'll need to tell the schools since I put this course on their apps?

You might be able to get away w/o that lab.

I have one semester of bio lab, and I dropped the second lab I was going to take, b/c it was interfering with research. I emailed schools I was specifically interested in about it and they said it was fine, especially since I had done other bio research. So if you've do some research you might be ok. It could be worth looking into.

interesting... I've done a buttload of research, so that would be nice if it exempted me. I'd rather just do a bio lab anyway though, just to curtail any questions about it. I'm also taking an engineering lab that supposedly (according to my pre-med advisor) counts as a bio lab, but again, i was just planning to take a bio lab to be safe. I guess I won't inform schools, as they won't check until I get accepted anyway, and just try to fit it in during a different quarter.
