Hi!!!

Preparing for my interview day!! Just wanted to get some tips for preparing and insights on the clothing expectations. Is business formal the dress code? Is it like a suit or blazer and dress pants?

Just a first gen trying to figure it out!!!

Thanks!

Male or female?

Thank you!!!!
Female!

Most interviews these days are on zoom so we'll only see you from the waist up. A shell or blouse with a blazer or suit jacket is the most prevalent look. You can choose a skirt or pants.... in all likelihood, no one will see what you are wearing. Same goes for feet: heels, flats, sandals, barefoot. No one is likely to know.

Is anyone doing in-person interviews these days?

My first one is in-person in Yakima!

Thank you!

I'm in a very urban area and haven't had on campus interviews since 2020 but in general, for women, suit with skirt or pants, or a blazer, skirt/pants combination. Blouse or shell under the jacket. Flats or pumps, but be sure you can walk distances in them as there may be a school tour that will involve walking. Modest jewelry -- nothing distracting.

Hair should be neat and held in place so that you don't fuss with it during the interview.

Many dental schools do on-site interviews (still).

What are some good resources for preparing for interviews? Things that teach you how to approach and answer common interview questions. I know confetto.ai is all over TikTok, but it's expensive. Any free resources?

My undergrad offered mock interviews, which was extremely helpful. I also have been looking up practice questions and podcasts. There's a lot of youtube videos, podcasts, ect.

Talk to your schools career counseling office. This is something very few undergraduates do.

We have the SDN interview feedback database. Make sure you contribute and help future applicants.

Enrollees in Becoming a Student Doctor also can ask for interview help.

I would not lean on AI for interviews. You don't know the language model, and chances are you get more questions for generic hiring/human resources. Maybe the model is trained for residencies. I would need to know more, but you need an experienced human. Focus on calming your anxiety, not memorizing answers. You know you better than anyone else. You don't need to breach your privacy and train future robots to destroy us. 🙂
