Has anymore dropped ANSC 22100 at Purdue with Dr. Forsyth? He heavily warns not to do this because you will have to provide transcripts to schools which can lead to further consequences. I currently am under a lot of personal and academic stress, and this class is not necessary for me anymore. I understand that there is no refund for the course at this point. Can anyone give me any information if you have dropped this class before? Did it have any negative effects on your admissions?

I have about 3 W's on my transcripts from undergrad (two were in major sciences: Biochem and Genetics) and I was never asked about them in any interviews or in any conversations with the schools I applied to. I can only speak for my own experiences but those W's didn't seem to have any impact on me getting accepted.

Just like greatdanelove, I don’t go to Purdue. But I had 2 F’s, a D, and a W on my transcript. Don’t stress a W too much. Obviously don’t withdraw from courses if you can help it, but things happen.

According to Dr. Forsyth, if I don't complete it at this point, I will get an F. 🙁

Just to clarify, are you able to withdraw or is he making you complete the course and otherwise you’ll fail?

The later. You have to complete the course or else you fail. There is no option to get a W.

Oh man. I guess that makes sense given how late in the semester it is. If you can get extra help, please do. Regardless, if you’re able to scrape by with at least a C, I don’t think it’ll heavily impact your chances of getting in. It’s one course. Don’t detract from your other courses to try to ace this one, but definitely try to pass.

Is it because it’s too far into the semester? I know when I was in undergrad there was a date after which you had to stick it out. What is the W deadline at Purdue?

Edit: Also when I was accepted into vet school it was a requirement to complete any enrolled courses with acceptable grades (so a C or better). Failing a course, required or no, would have been grounds for me not to be able to start. So I think you need to stick it out and get at least a C.

Are you accepted into a vet school currently? If so, call them ASAP and ask what their policy is. They may care, they may not. Some schools don’t care as long as it’s not a prereq.
I think I'll do this. I have been accepted and it is not a prequisite.

Thank you everyone!!

Yea what Ski said. I thought you meant you were applying to schools. If you’re already accepted, see what they require. In addition to that, your grades overall might matter a little less aside from if you have a scholarship or something contingent on your GPA. So you may not need to stress for an A in your classes if you don’t need to. My advice is that if the school won’t care if you fail a non-required course, then don’t worry about it. If you need to pass but that’ll require you slacking a bit in your other courses, then do enough to pass and make sure you also pass your other courses. As long as you get the grades you need to matriculate, that’s what matters. Again, as long as any sort of scholarships aren’t contingent on maintaining a certain GPA or something.
