Hello everyone~

I am a pre-pharmacy student. I have a 3.61 GPA right now (I got a "C" on my art class b/c I couldn't draw too well, I got B on PSY2012-GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY, MAC1114-TRIGONOMETRY, ENC1101-COLL COMPOSITION I, and BSC1011C PRIN OF BIOLOGY II) I got all A's for rest of my classes.

However, this semester, I had some major hard time with my classes. First, Org Chem kicks in, I spend most of my time on it. Second, I taking class between 2 different campus which are 15 miles away from each other, and I only have 15 minutes between my Physics I and English Lit class. Therefore I have to drive 15 miles in 15 minutes. Third, The professor that teaching Physcis I really sucks, (yea, I know I shouldn't complaining, but he really does, I am sorry) as result, I dropped Physcis I.

Lately, the English Lit class just like fall off the cliff, professor gave us lots of work load, and my grades start getting low, I figured if I keep going, I probably will ended up with D or C, B if I am lucky.

My question is: should I drop that English Lit class too? IF I drop it, Is it gonna look bad on my transcript b/c I dropped 2 classes in one semester?
How many classes u guys dropped?

P.S. Little bit about myself: I work about 20 hours a week at Wal-Mart Pharmcy (for the pharmacy experience and letter of recommendation from pharmacist) and I work around 24 hours for my parents at the weekends. (it is the family bussiness, so I have no choice T-T)

I am really frustrated right now. Any tips or ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!!

One more thing, I actually got a minor car accident when I was try to hurry to my Eng Lit class, that was another reason why I dropped Physcis I.

As long as you drop with a w and not a x you should be fine. Retake it and smash it.
👍

Thank you for the reply!

But, dropping 2 classes in one semester? X_x ugh, I just never done that b4, and that Physics class was the first class I ever dropped.

is it going to show a W on your transcript if you drop english lit?

i took a literature course in the spring semester and I was struggling and hated it. but i knew that i needed to at least finish the semester to start pharmacy school, so that was my motivation for working hard in that class.

if it is going to show a W, you should plan to take those courses again some time. if dropping two courses brings you down to a load that is significantly less than normal, then you better make sure you try to ace the other classes that you are still taking.

"is it going to show a W on your transcript if you drop english lit?"

yes, I believe so, b/c I got W1 on Physcis on my transcript, I guess that means withdraw and first attempt?

^^^^
Great reply ace the rest of your classes to justify the dropped classes.

Org Chem I will be little bit tuff to get A >.<
But I am doing good on the Pharmacology class so far, got 95

If you have sterling grades from here on out, the most those 2 W's will do to you is generate a question at an interview, maybe.

IN other words, you'll just have to explain them. A 3.7+ GPA and whatever other ECs you've racked up + your PCAT score being above average (75th+ percentile or so?) will make the Ws a nearly non-issue.

I hate to say this... but... there are a LOT of people who have gotten in with WAY more W's, and add some D's and F's. LOL.

I think you're worrying too much.

well, speaking of PCAT, that is another weakness of mine. I sucked at PCAT so bad, I had like 26%..... yea I know. So I am aiming for those pharmacy schools that don't require PCAT, like FAMU. Therefore, my GPA has to be strong, and I have to be careful with withdraws...

26%? That's pretty hard to do. Is that your composite or the score from one section? That score is really going to limit which schools you can apply to (which it looks like you're aware of). I would recommend you take the PCAT again after you finish some more classes unless you're set on not applying to PCAT schools. It sounds like you are early in your college career so maybe you took the PCAT a little prematurely.

If you truly got a 26% composite then you need to take a hard look at what you had trouble in. Hopefully it is just because you haven't taken the classes that the PCAT tests on. They call it the Pharmacy College Admission Test for a reason, it's designed to be an indicator of how well you will perform in a college of pharmacy. If you are below the bottom third then you need to take a look at your motivations for pharmacy school.

As Passion4Sci said, 2 W's are not going to affect you that much. The adcoms will flip through the applications and the first thing they will see is your GPA. If you've got a 3.5+ then they will be more likely to give you leniency. If you had a stellar PCAT then it would be a non-issue. Don't sweat the W's, just don't make it a habit. Good luck! :luck:

Based on your GPA, a 26% on the PCAT means your college classes are cake! Sorry dude, but the school you attend has more inflation than Zimbabwe.

That's kind of what I was thinking... high GPA and low PCAT just screams easy college

Midterms and finals given by an inflationary professor are customized self esteem boosters.

If we don't get serious about enforcing standards America is going down the tubes.

Or someone who is bad @ standardized testing...

yea, I found out that I am not a good test taking person. I get frustrated a lot during the test and ended up screw up the whole exam. I have to take my time to analyze things, for example, I always do so-so on the exams but I got almost perfect score on lab reports.

you know what, you work too much...!! just be more concentrate on your study..and you will be fine..!!

It sounds like you took the PCAT before taking orgo or calculus, is that right? Maybe you just weren't ready for it! Add test phobia to the mix and it sounds like a recipe for disaster. You could try again when you have the appropriate coursework finished but for now you should really be focusing on learning and retaining the concepts.

Is it really necessary for you to work more than 40 hours a week while you're in school? That's way too much, imho, and you need to address that if you want to finish on time and keep your grades up. Any chance your parents could recruit a younger sibling/cousin or hire someone else?

Sounds like you need to plan your schedule more carefully. You might be able to take some gen eds like English as an online class, which would reduce potential conflicts. Research your profs on ratemyprofessor or pickaprof. And space your classes appropriately...the life you save might be your own!
