Dropping Planned Courses

I think my low QR score is going to disqualify me from acceptance at my state school. Two of my fall courses (Anat/Physio 2 and 3) were in order to fulfill this schools reqs but no other schools I applied to require these courses. I am a postbac so I don't need these courses if I am not getting in to my state school. So, how do I go about dropping planned courses? Do I update all of my schools now or just mention it if I get an interview?

I wouldn't start ruling out OHSU just because you got a low score in QR. I'd imagine your high AA would compensate for anything but the lowest of QR scores.

Don't make pre-judgements about what schools are looking for. Obviously your numbers are very competitive at this school if you look at their admissions statistics. Also, I have learned the hard way not to drop classes I think I won't need. I went to Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine for a year before I decided that I didn't want to be a Vet. When I was accepted, I dropped the physics lab that I was in because I "didn't need it". Now it is coming back to bite me, because I live somewhere where I can only take physics labs by the quarter. Now I have to take 2 quarters of physics labs that don't matter to make up this requirement. I have learned my lesson. Do not ever assume that you can stop working hard, and that you have reached "good" enough. What if you don't get into any other schools this year?...highly unlikely, but nonetheless, you want to be prepared for OHSU, your best chance no matter what year you apply.

You can just update it when the Academic Update becomes available. Not much you can do until then. As for ruling them out because of your low QR score, well...alot of schools places very little on that section. Half of the adcoms will admit to you that they can't even balance there checkbook. Just make sure you have a good Office Manager when you become a Dentist. Another option you can take is see what happens December 1st, if they give you a chance then you can take the required courses during your spring semester. Good luck

Yellow, although other schools may not require these courses many recommend them. This may be a boost to your app, which may be worthwhile with a 14. Just a thought.

As mentioned, you can update your course load when ADSAS sends your academic update in Dec/Jan.

As a first year dental student, I strongly suggest you take a full year of
Anatomy and Physio even if they are not required prereqs. It will only help you in the long run. 1) it makes you a stronger candidate. 2) it will prepare you for your first year in dental school. You'll spend less time studying anatomy and physio since it will be mostly review material. It will allow you to spend more time for other courses like dental anatomy and histo.
