I did my Certiphi drug test last week and it came back negative across the board. However, I take prescription Adderall everyday so it definitely should have come back positive for amphetamines. I talked to Certiphi support and they said I could add a statement to my test result which would then get sent to the dean. Not sure what the best course of action is here because I'd rather not disclose ADHD to my admin if it can be helped, but I also don't want the report to get corrected two or three years down the line and cause problems for me. I'm planning to add the statement saying it should have returned positive for amphetamines, but hoping to get an opinion from @LizzyM, @Goro, @gyngyn or another adcom guru before I do anything.

If the test came back negative and you have an active prescription, why do you need to do or mention anything?
Just concerned that I get to my M3 year, Certiphi corrects some administrative error that resulted in me getting that negative result, and then I get in trouble with admin.

What is the likelihood of Certiphi correcting some random dude's tests results due to an administrative error years later? Why would you be responsible for Certiphi's error? Just keep a letter on file from your physician stating that you are prescribed the medication.

Honestly I personally would refrain from mentioning anything about your mental health to your medical school administration. Even something as simple as ADHD. Some people in medicine are completely backwards when it comes to this.

Get help, obviously, just don’t tell your admin. Or the medical board…. Depending on your state.

My state board encourages us NOT to tell as long as we get treatment. Imagine that….. and our school has a wellness office that is completely separate from the rest of the med school administration for that kind of thing. So not everywhere is living in the Old Testament when it comes to mental health, but some places still are. Be wise.

A quarter of your class will have a diagnosis of ADHD (wish I was kidding), so the stigma isn't exactly what it used to be.

Don't know how the Certiphi test is set up, but it's possible that it will not flag a therapeutic amphetamine concentration.

Either way, if you aren't doing illicit drugs then you shouldn't lose any sleep over this.
