So I was celebrating the interviews I have received and now I'm concerned if they drug test. Anyone know if schools drug test during the interview process?

No, I've been to a few interviews.. no drug test at any of them. I think it is illegal for them to do that, unless you're accepted of course. It's like a job interview, they ask for a drug test after you get your job. I hear some schools drug test prior to matriculation. Seeing as you are someone who is using drugs, here is some advice for you....
STOP! why risk losing everything you have worked so hard for? Are drugs really that great? 😕

no dental schools will do drug test on you during the interview. i have heard stories that some schools do drug test you when you get accepted but i still didn't figure out the names of those schools or if they really do or not.

so i guess no worries for the interviews but should probably use detox next year if you are still worried after interviews..

i think weed is much overrated, try other things perhaps.

👍 Good advice. Unfortunately the "nothing bad will ever happen to me" mentality seems to run rampant among drug users (potheads inclusive).

Very true! Besides the fact that they are terrible for you, they are illegal and WILL get you kick out of school. Time to grow up and stop using!!

You're one to talk bee-otch!!!!!!! sushi+hookah...that's in the menu for next time son!!!!

Weed isn't even that bad for you and if you knew a little bit about it other than what you Americans watch on the Faux News channel you would know that. (I'm from Canada where it's essentially decriminalized so I know I don't have the legal issues to worry about.) The reason you look down on it is because it's so illegal in your country (which is understandable). The corporate US media displays weed as something that will ruin your life...blah blah, so the majority of people will believe that, without actually having any prior knowledge of it. Perhaps try it, it will open your mind up in ways that you never knew. I can honestly say that I am more knowledgeable and insightful because of marijuana. I am a science student and for me, when I smoke it makes be see things from a different perspective, so it definitely expands my creativity. I don't see this as a bad thing, I don't know how anyone could...just my opinion.

^^ I am from Canada and I do NOT approve this message, lol. We are all (mostly) adults here, if you do drugs I assume you know the consequences of being caught. If (when) it catches up to you, you will face those consequences accordingly. Also funny how when I was reading SDN last year there were drug test threads there and they all came to the same consensus - "I don't know, maybe?". Perhaps next time do a search...

they are going to kick you out for doing some weed?

that's pretty silly

you will not get drug tested. you will get a background check tho.

No offense, but I noticed that this is your first post!! Not really the best first post, try to be clean during your interview to make a much better first impression.

Congrats and good luck on your interviews!👍

well it may be time to become a little bit more stealthy about your drug usage if you come to DS in the united states, where you WILL have the legal issues to worry about. I don't need to watch the news to know that smoking is bad for your lungs and affects your ability to do something physically productive like working out or staying in shape (you might get winded typing a response to this). I don't look down on it because it's illegal, I look down on it because its dumb as hell.

and your more knowledgeable because of your drug use?!?!?! Keep this stoner away from my mouth.....

Bahahaha! Agreed. That's the pothead logic for ya.

I used to work at a medical school and you have to realize, that by the time you would be taking a drug test it would be probably one of the first days of school, and I highly doubt that from a business stance they are willing to give you a drug test that could disqualify a student. My mention that I worked at a med school is relevant because when I went in for my physical there were signs EVERYWHERE. I'm not kidding at least fifty all over the walls saying not to drug test any grad students, especially med and dental students. The reason for this, is that most colleges also realize that a lot of smart people smoke, not all of them, but a surprisingly high proportion. They aren't going to allow the first day of classes to be half empty just, especially when they accepted kids based on a set of grades that show they would be strong students. This is just my view though, A good idea if you can't hold back is to smoke until about two weeks before, take one of those liquid detoxifiers and regularly take those at home drug tests to see if you'll pass.

Also, don't worry about if you have friends who smoke before med school. The current strength and specificity of drug tests can actually tell the difference between somebody who smokes and somebody who just takes on a contact high. Hope this helps, I'm sure somebody will respond saying that I'm wrong and this will continue on in futility. HOORAY

Rude.

OP: Just call and ask. They won't know who you are. If you don't feel comfortable, call a bunch of schools that you have no intention of applying to. I'm sure it's pretty standard across the board.

i personally have know many people that have done shrooms, ecstasy, cocaine, lsd/acid, weed, and much more throughout college (some even with daily usage) and are currently enrolled in medical/dental schools across the country.

as long as you keep your life in check and can stay away from addiction, i think drugs aren't a big deal

how do you suggest "staying away" from the addiction? nobody WANTS to get addicted do they? once you start doing something that is considered addictive, you're putting yourself at that much more of a risk of becoming addicted.

nobody starts smoking cigarettes thinking "i hope i get addicted"

p.s. drugs are STUPID! i don't care if it's marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, nicotine. all stupid.

just make sure you don't abuse Lidocaine as your drug of choice.

Marijuana is absolutely NOT addictive, so if that's what the OP was talking about (which I would assume he is), your post is uselessly antagonistic. Neither are most other hallucinogens, for that matter

But back on subject, if you aren't sure about your status, you can buy a home testing kit to double check before you go in for the real thing. NORML's website also has some tips in case you're in a bad situation.

Just be smart.

I thought all smart kids did pot? 😕

lol

:laugh::laugh:I can't believe I'm reading some of this garbage. Drugs are OK as long as you keep your life in check??!?! What about the physical harm you are subjecting your body to? This is absolutely THEE dumbest thread I have seen, a bunch of pre-dents defending usage of illegal drugs. Apparently mommy and daddy must be rich for you to be able to pay for applying to dental school, DS tuition, AND go pick up those few grams of coke and bags of weed.

Oh and Mr. Lebowski I would love to see what credible source you can shoot my way that says weed is absolutely positively not addictive since all I have seen is that it has not been proven to be addictive or non-addictive. Maybe someone could list the beautiful, liberating effects marijuana has on your lungs?? Or the benefits coke and X have on your brain??

Now if you'll excuse me I have some heroin to do, it makes me feel... umm-- creative or helps me concentrate or something:laugh:

Ha! Knee slapper! I know I will never be able to get through to ignorant people (who think cannabis and heroin are even jokingly comparable) like you, but that's life.

You want a credible source? How about you smoke (or vaporize since smoke IS bad for your lungs) a gram of cannabis every day for two weeks. Then stop.

Next, inject heroin twice a day for two weeks, and stop.

Now, after stopping both habits, tell me which drug causes you to pawn your ipod and TV because you can't sleep at night.

This thread is obviously going nowhere. We already answered the OPs question, and it's proven time and again that it's impossible to overturn decades of misinformation to people who know not of what they speak.

Since I said heroin and weed were similar outright (the end of my post is what I would like to call a joke, heard of one?)...I am fully aware of how bad and physically addicting heroin is, and now, thanks to you I am able to realize that weed might as well be sold at the counter at our grocery stores next to the cheetos. Ohhhhh yeah...thats right it's ILLEGAL. If only whoever decided to make it illegal were as knowledgeable as you on the topic of weed. It's a shame they made something so harmless illegal and I'll leave it up to you potheads to complain about how it is illegal. +pity+
I'm assuming you've added weed in your EC part of AADSAS as it is harmless, that would be an interesting interview question huh? And apparently breathing in vapors full of chemicals wouldn't reach my lungs...noted👍, thanks for the lesson

You're right, because that's so relevant to who I am as a person. Anyone who's ever used cannabis will be a terrible, incompetent, inhumane dentist. But not you, right?

👍, chief.

* I dont think you understand what a vaporizer does.

* What about weed brownies?

Really? I wonder why more dental students don't come on here and say that... I thought that kind of thing was illegal until after they have extended an acceptance. Eh guess I was wrong, this guys in dental school I'd believe him over any pre-dent...
