Since I'm on the keto diet, I've been wondering, what if there was a drug that would prevent any absorption of glucose from the small intestine and large intestine, essentially making the glucose just pass through the system?

Is Acarbose the the drug I'm thinking of?

What would be potential side effects of increased amounts of glucose in the intestines? Increased bacterial counts? Rancid farts?

Sounds pretty extreme diet.
What about peeing out the sugar with like Farxiga? (side effect - weight loss)

/s Or, have a physician treat your..."ADHD"... with some methamphetamine 20mg. You could show some of your posts and possibly convince any reasonable physician. /s

Seriously though, even if you manage to find something that induces glucose malabsorption, it's a guaranteed kidney stone bonanza. You really shouldn't do it based on the sad patients who do have such a condition.

Seems pretty pointless/redundant; drug monogram suggests alpha glucosidase inhibitors are most effective with higher complex carbohydrate intake (~50% kcals...depending on your "definition"/version of keto you follow carb intake is 0-5% (traditional) to 15-20% (very liberal & often used with medium chain tryglercide supplementation; other liberal versions/bastardized versions use MCT but with higher protein intake than traditional).

I dare you to use orlistat with keto and see how that goes...:barf:(other direction)

Actually measuring out kcal intake is pretty damn effective & often neglected (in my experience) with people who follow keto or keto-like diets (it's not rainbows, sunshine, puppydogs, & magic, etc.)

Keto doesn't work without a caloric deficit, but if not eating carbs helps you get in that deficit then so be it. Otherwise, it's a stupid fad diet.

Eating fats and protein fill you up and keep you full for a lot longer. (Eg, why am I full after eating a 3 egg omelette but I can eat 6 donuts and still be hungry?)

Yes, it's well known that protein has a greater satiating effect than carbs or fats.

Much of the positive impact on weight loss from atkins, low carb, keto, whatever you want to call it (carb restriction), etc. is confounded by the generally larger than average intake of protein. Weight lifting & restricted protein just sucks (speaking from experience & consensus from others who have tried) in terms of performance (gluconeogenesis does indirectly provide sufficient energy for weight lifting even if you restrict carbohydrates greatly)

Without question, carbohydrates >>> protein in terms of performance for weight lifting. Just saying definitely not a wise idea to restrict BOTH carbohydrate & protein; most people on low carbohydrates have to compensate with higher protein intake to sustain weight lifting/intensity/continue making progressive overload goals. #keto no gainzzz, look flat as ****, no pump brah

I try to avoid drug when I went on keto diet.

If you are able to do intermittent fasting with keto, you are going to see significant results. I got really great results with this combination.
Good luck!

Did you mean methylphenidate and not the illegal drug? 🙂

Controlled Substance Schedules
What do you mean, Desoxyn has been a II drug since before the Harrison Act? That was the weight loss drug of the 50s and 80s. Rumor has it that a particular politician in the House of Representatives uses quite a bit of it and is getting some attention as she's definitely using too much.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger: Working on Amphetamines - The Atlantic

And just to not pick on Democrats, Desoxyn was the drug of choice for Ayn Rand (you have to be high when you're reading the Fountainhead or it'll put you to sleep) and William Buckley (who also used something else with it).

Not a pharmacist, but methamphetimine looked like the drug that's illegal... methylphenidate is not; learned something new today 🙂

Cocaine is also not illegal.

Damn, no wonder the doc I shadow has a Pharm D with him at all times. How are they not illegal? Because of scripts written? Learning something new, again...

I mean yeah, I'm not trying to add on muscle, lift or make any gains. Going for pure fat loss. If I lose muscle with it, so be it.

They aren't illegal, because they are FDA approved. Now why are these drugs FDA approved when drugs with arguably just as much legitimate medical use & used in other countries, like heroin are not FDA approved? Well, politics. Pretty much politics.
