i have considered it, but 8-9 years is a hard committment to make. also, you don't necessarily need the PhD to conduct research.
 
I have also considered it -- it would be nice to have the dual degree paid for by somebody other than myself, but I don't know how rewarding the academic setting would actually be.
 
What were you guys interested in doing for the PHD track, though, when you were considering it?

I took a bioengineering class with a guy that was pusuing a DDS/PhD. He was getting his PhD in materials science engineering (focus on implants). Sounded awesome.
