i have considered it, but 8-9 years is a hard committment to make. also, you don't necessarily need the PhD to conduct research.

What were you guys interested in doing for the PHD track, though, when you were considering it?
 
I took a bioengineering class with a guy that was pusuing a DDS/PhD. He was getting his PhD in materials science engineering (focus on implants). Sounded awesome.
