This sort of thing comes up from time to time here at SDN. I think it's going to boil down to your specific Board of Pharmacy and how they handle DUIs. If it was me, I would contact the board and be up front with them about it and ask what you should do. If she's afraid of what they will say, she could always call and ask anonymously.

The most important thing is not to "fib" about this if it's asked on an application down the road.

I know someone who go a DUI during residency.

still nailed a faculty job several states away. we were no longer friends at that point but I know there was a conviction and there is a job so not sure how it all related.

In Illinois, it might mean she won't get automatic approval for the license after taking the NAPLEX/MJPE. She will have to meet with the actual board.

sadly, i know a few people who have a DUI on their record in cali

i believe it stays on your record for 7 years. after 7 years, you can have it expunged/sealed from your records

best thing to do is to not delay the process. doing so will only delay the 7 year expiration date. when she applies to the board, to become a graduate intern, take the boards, become a pharmacist, she will need to mark YES under the "have you ever been convicted of a crime" section and attach an explanation of her DUI

if this is her first offense, it shouldn't be too much of a problem....worst case scenario, a delay in her application

california doesn't mess around with DUIs. she will have to pay a grip in court/lawyer fees, community service, and attend counseling. to try and manage all of that with school and rotations will be quite a chore

There are many first time offender programs that while keeping the DUI on your record, it shows you are addressing the problem. You may have to appear before the Board of Pharmacy, but in the end it will probably not affect your ability to get a license.

What i am proud of is that everyone here realizes how serious a DUI is. It amazes me at how many people dont take DUI's seriously. Not just the legal implications, but also the people who get killed by drunk drivers.
