Can anyone provide any information about this residency in terms of how competitive it is to match in and if it is a solid program.

Duke is easily one of the top programs in the country. At least last year when I interviewed there, they had 12 positions, 8 for 4-yr combined, 4 for PGY-2. They have an army of CRNAs in the hospital but it works out well for the residents as they get to pick and choose which cases they want as opposed to doing tons of the banal. Because of the CRNAs, you get coverage promptly at 5 or something. Research is also the name of the game at Duke, where they have lots of facilities and money and even more space to expand. Despite this opportunity however, I feel most of their residents were not so academically inclined.

A major strength/weakness of their program is their location in Durham, where you can buy a brand new 3-bedroom home next to a beautiful golf course for about $180,000. That being said, it's in Durham. Also, there are literally about 2 unmarried residents in their entire program, so if you're single and from the big city like me, you're not going to find a whole lot of ppl to commiserate with.

Whoops, almost forgot, Duke is definitely a highly competitive anesthesia program to match into. The candidates who interview there are usually the same ones who also interview at the Boston progs and the NoCal progs.

PGY1 this year, but as far as I could tell, great program, great people, top notch research if you are interested not not forced to do any. Competitiveness, 220's I assume, which is about same as top 10-20 programs in the country, although there seem to be a slight lean toward students who has had research experience. Benefits are better than I expected, Durham/Chapel Hill area is very convenient and has lots of stuff around.
My #1 reason for choosing Duke- Night float, ~3 weeks of nights and and no call for rest of the year. Also approx 3 weekends free per months.
#2 reason -Duke, not just in name but because it is a strong institution with strong residents and faculty all around, so far I've been very impressed with my upper levels and attendings, and I just hope to be as good as them down the line.
#3 reason- plenty fo CRNAs means plenty of interesting cases for residents

I was wondering the same thing and took a look on their website. I didn't see any DO's, which to me is always something to watch for when applying(doesn't mean I won't apply anyway 😉 ). In general , the NC schools didn't have many. Wake had a few, but overall a small percent. Anyone heard otherwise?

That's great to hear, I'll be checking it out. How do you like the program at Wake? Also, would you say it's one of the tougher programs to get into? Do you know what average scores are. etc? Any info is awesome!

UNC is also DO friendly. I interviewed there as a DO student. There is also a CA-1 this year who is a DO I believe. During the application process, I spoke to many DO students on the interview trail and I didn't hear of any DO's interviewing at Duke. They dropped the axe on me!
