would this be approved?
I guess if they are advertising it, they must be doing it
My assumption is… I know it’s bad to assume… they are “doing it.” But with their linacs. We all need to keep in mind that one of the side reasons to get a proton machine is that it tends to increase the linac business too.

Walk them by the proton machine and try to upsell them like a car salesman.

*Smacks proton machine* You can get a lot of arthritis relief with this bad boy.

But I agree, I initially read it assuming photons.

Maryland has a big dept. the proton center is one part of it, and has protons

Isn't Maryland the place that had that one rad onc who was spamming every rad onc in the country trying to get them to refer him patients for protons a few years ago? It was nuts.

I once referred a patient to New York Proton Center and got a nice Christmas card.

Your experience would make for a humorous graphic t-shirt.

Why every practice in (esp in FL) was tripping over themselves to get a cyberknife two-ish decades ago

for straight Medicare (without supplemental insurance) protons for OA would get reimbursed just fine… Also some self-pay pts would get duped, no doubt

I'm sure there's a list of icd10 codes that get paid depending on the Medicare LCD, no? Similar to IMRT or srs/SBRT... They don't just cover every code out there

Maybe. If you practice in an area with no proton LCD. If you practice in an area with a proton LCD, there will be an accompanying LCA, and the arthritis ICDs aren’t on them, and the claim would be auto rejected.
