Duke Patho?
Started by zarathustra
I may be wrong, but I suspect not many here know and even fewer care.
Not being sarcastic, just reflective.
They filled. There are some who post on this board who applied and interviewed there.
I believe there is a review in the "Interview Experiences" thread.

I'm not aware of any ranking system for pathology programs...oh yeah, and I don't care either 😉

US News and World Report does not rank path - the rankings are based on clinical criteria. Here is the overall hospital list:

I agree with Andy - doesn't have much of a bearing on path residency training, though.

Duke was a #1 seed in basketball. Then they had to lose to Sparty! 😡

Its been a long day, I would completely heap a huge pile of manure on you, but Im tired.
Good night.
Rankings. 😡 😡 We need an angrier smilie.
And if such rankings did exist, they would matter how? Every program is different and every resident is different.

Dook has the biggest (I think) PA school in the US and (according to hearsay) you get the shaft as far as experience in grossing goes bec the PA-studs only leave like two specimens out for the surgpath resident to gross on.....completely inadequate if true. Also, I heard this 3d person, but apparently a graduate from Dook's path prog in the not-so-distant past actually went back to a different academic institution after entering private practice to bone up on, yes, grossing. I think UNC is generally considered to give a better education in path. Other than that I don't have much input. My wife and I both got interviews there this year and declined.
Also, US news rankings are a crock.

YOURE JOKING RIGHT? The shaft? So instead of concentrating on grossing in 5 uteri for fibroids, these residents actually read and learn real pathology. Yeah, place sounds like it sucks, avoid it like the plague!

hehe...yeah i don't think i will miss all that grossing much after residency. as an attending, i would just want to do signouts.
After my PSF and a couple months on surg path here I feel basically completely comfortable with grossing most everything. I wouldn't complain if someone did them all for me by now.
Touche. My point was more with the sorta-recent grad who felt it was necessary to get additional training (this is gospel, and sad). I know of at least one group of 20+ private pathologists at a good group ($ all "name place" trained $) who do their a lot of their own grossing (bigs at least) and don't cry too much about it.LADoc00 said:YOURE JOKING RIGHT? Also, I don't actually have anything against Duke. If you look at their numbers, they're obviously a good place to train, just not my bag.
