Duke University DPT class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone else on this forum is going to Duke. I was accepted into the class of 2018 and I am so excited to get started and meet classmates! :highfive:

What were your stats if you don't mind me asking?

Hello! I was also accepted into the class of 2018 at Duke!
LU Lancer? I'm about 45 mins from LU, and I have quite a few friends there lol. Mind if I ask you for your stats? I applied, not ED, and haven't heard yet. Anxious to hear.

Oh that is awesome! Where did you go to school? I completely understand I remember how anxious I was! Good luck I hope you get in 🙂

GPA: 3.9
GRE: 308 Combined, 3 on the writing (I am not a great writer, and this was brought up in my interview)
I did 100 inpatient hours, 100 outpatient, and about 10 in home health.

I'm at UNC right now. We have pretty comparable stats. I didn't apply ED because I wanted my options and I didn't know what kind of financial aid I'd get from Duke. Congrats btw. You'll love the Duke/CH area.

Thank you. Yeah when I was considering ED I was thinking that if I got an offer from Duke would I really turn it down for another school and I couldn't! So I did ED and I could not be happier with my choice!

Hi georgia2009! Here are my stats:

Major: Health Science and psychology
Overall GPA: 3.8
GRE: 313 combined, 5 writing
Experience: 200+ volunteer hours in outpatient & inpatient settings; sports therapy, general orthopedics, geriatrics, pediatrics, aquatic therapy, neuromuscular, cardio/pulmonary, intensive care

Congrats to you also!! I go to Longwood in VA. What school do you go to?

I applied to Duke and am curious about the timeline. I recently received my "application complete" email, but it was lean on details. Anybody here have an idea on how long it takes them to send out decline/interview invites?
Hello! Both of us on here applied early decision, and I am sure the timeline is different. I think the deadline is November 1st so they probably wait until then to decide on interview decisions. I received my email about my interview invite about 2 weeks before the actual interview. Sorry I could not be of more help! Good luck!

Same thing here. I received the same email a few days ago. Their timetable seems pretty broad. Hoping to hear soon though as they're my first choice. Oh how I regret not doing early decision. I would've found out by now!

Some people the last couple of years didn't hear until March/April.

I received an invitation from Duke to interview on 12/6! Hopefully I'll be joining those of you who have already gotten accepted 🙂:joyful:

When and how did you hear back from them? I assume email? Crossing my fingers for an invite to interview as well.

I received an email yesterday afternoon.

Congrats! How long has it been since they told you your application was complete? Still anxiously waiting to here from Duke 🙂

I submitted on 8/9/14, but received a few different emails, saying "Application Received" on 8/20, then an "Application Checklist" on 8/22. I followed up the second week of September because I had paid my supplemental, but did not receive confirmation. I received a receipt for that 9/11.

I called the office at the end of October to get a general idea of invitations and interview dates, since there isn't anything posted. I was told that because it is rolling admission, it would be anywhere between November 1st and February for invitations and interviews - I know that doesn't help much.

Congrats! Mind sharing your stats?
Thanks!

Sure!
Undergrad in Film Production Design, GPA: 3.9
Pre Req GPA: 3.88
GRE: 164 verbal, 156 quant, 4 writing

Extras: Current Officer in Pre-PT Club, Bio Club; Previous Undergrad clubs, mentorships; Current Volunteer with Alzheimer's Assoc., Adaptive Adventures, St. Elizabeth's.
Some more info - but that's the gist!

I heard Nov 6 and will be attending the 12/6 interview at Duke!!

The interview portion was a breeze. I felt like some of the students were a bit arrogant. The student leading my group on the facility tour didn't seem to care about us being there and just rushed everything. Everyone in our your group was kinda confused.

The dpt building is offset from the main campus by about a 15 minute walk so unless you want to head there yourself, you won't actually see main campus. The main campus is simply beautiful. The dpt building is set in a plaza and has little shops surrounding it. The Durham area is really quite cool and seems to have a lot of character. You also will get a change of seasons in this part of nc if you care for that.

We were told that the majority of our lectures are online which I thought was somewhat strange. The faculty seem amazing.

Yeah I loved my interview day there. I was surprised by how relaxed it was for being Duke. I cannot wait to live in Durham next year because the area seemed nice with a lot of stuff to do! I am glad that it went well for you!

Those of you that were accepted to Duke already, do you know if most the seats have been filled yet? I have an interview January 24th and am wondering if I will be competing for few remaining spots.

When did you apply? I applied early October but haven't heard anything yet. I'm wondering if they're just going down the list based on the time the application was turned in.

If they are they're taking their sweet time, I applied in early september and I haven't heard anything, although I assumed it was more to do with my application and less when I turned it in...

Hey! I got in through ED and they never shared with us how many people were actually accepted then, but I know that I was really surprised because there had to have been over 30 of us there. I know they have a pretty high acceptance rate for ED. I would guess that they probably have a little over half of their class to fill with regular admission. Sorry I could not be of more help, but even those of us accepted do not know much. Good luck!

I have an interview on the 24th as well, could anyone share their experiences with the program and/or interview? thanks!

Congrats on getting an interview!!

My interview day for early decision was fairly laid back.. There was a lot of time to speak with current students and have any questions about the program answered. We toured the facility and listened to faculty speak. My one-on-one interview with a faculty member lasted about 45 minutes, and from what I observed, that was one of the longer interviews. My interviewer only asked me one question and then asked me what questions I had prepared for her, so my best advice to you is to have a few good questions prepared ahead of time so you can keep the conversation going 🙂

Good luck!

For those of you who have already interviewed at Duke- I have a question about attire. I was planning on wearing a light pink top with a black blazer, black flats, and I wanted to wear these black and white patterned dress pants because I think that black pants are incredibly boring. That being said I was reading some forums online and everyone says that they wore black suits and I'm wondering if my outfit is not conservative enough. I was trying to show some of my personality with my outfit but I'm wondering if I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb.

Everyone had solid pants when I was there. I was wearing a bright blue shirt and a black jacket and pants. I used the shirt for my pop of color.

for those whose were accepted in regular admission, how many days after your interview did you hear back? thanks.

Has Duke started their interviews for regular admission? I have heard nothing and submitted back in September.
Thanks

I got an email from them last week just saying they were still considering my application and that they'd be in touch as soon as possible. Anyone else heard anything?

I interviewed on Dec 6 and got my acceptance the following Thursday!

To those attending- has anyone made a FB group yet?
