I apologize in advance if this question is dumb/trivial.

What do you guys recommend to wear to the pre-interview dinner with students? I know the interviews themselves are business casual but what's a good rule of thump for apparel at these dinners?

Almost always casual for the dinners.

Interviews are not business casual...

The students are looking for normal people who look, dress, and act normally. So just wear something normal. If you're overdressed you'll stand out. I'd wear slacks and a decent shirt.

For the interviews wear a suit.
